Legal & General "unable to renew" insurance

I'm hoping there is a company out there other than just home protect that may be a little more competitive, but i'm not hopeful. I'm happy to pay a higher excess, but that hasn't yet been an option for me. I'm hoping to only want the insurance at this address for a couple of months as am hoping to be moved by very early next year. Hopefully the new address won't be in such a high rated post code area, although I reallise we are also classified as a part of the risk.0

You could try this company, who should be able to provide a quote, it will almost certainly have an increased excess which may only apply to certain sections eg Theft and possibly escape of water. http://www.bureauinsure.co.uk/
The premiums will be expensive compared to what you're used to with L&G but they will start reducing year on year.
You need to regard your Home Insurance for catastrophes for the next 3 to 5 years to allow your record to go back to normal.
With a break in, your more likely to be broken into again, it would be worth asking your local police station as they normally have an officer who will come around and give free theft prevention advice. Often what they recommend comes free or is very cheap eg starting to padlock your side gate to prevent access to your back garden.0 -
The burglary team have been around, we have had the talk and they have given us some smartwater to mark our stuff with. I did uv mark some of our items a couple of years ago with my old service number, but none of that was stolen! Law of sod again

Will give them a go thanks. Bit (that's a lie, 'cause i'm a lot) peeved with myself really as this latest claim wasn't worthy of a claim at all. It looked a lot worse than it actually was and I had already informed L&G about it before the lack of severity had been discovered. It took so long for the true damage to be seen because I had to leave it until forensics had been and done their stuff, by which time the insurance locksmiths were already on their way. I thought the whole door and frame needed replacing the way it looked. I would have taken the hit of the few stolen items, had I realised it was just locks and handles at the outset .0 -
I seem to have found a company (underwritten by Axa) that will insure us at a reasonable price and with reasonable excesses and requirements/ exclusions.
A big weight off our mind for the (hopefully) last couple of months at this address.
Thanks for the input everyone that replied :beer:0 -
Another bit of good news today.
I made a complaint to L&G about them refusing renewal and the potential future consequences for us. They have passed my complaint to the underwriters who agreed to give us a quote, with a couple of conditions. We now won't have to say we have been refused insurance

No, but you have had special conditions applied which also has to be disclosed, (and amounts to the same issue as having a cancellation on your history)0 -
Really? They only stated an alarm with a maintenance contract and theft by forced entry as conditions. Hardly the same as being refused, and placed in the same category as convicted persons and fraudsters?0
