TalkTalk Termination Fee

I'm trying to sort this out on behalf of my mum.
Our internet has always been awful since we got TalkTalk - we used to be on Home Call (I think that was the company name), however had no choice when we were moved to TalkTalk. Our wireless has always been choosy about when it wants to work, and will only work on the ground floor of our house (when it does work). We got an adapter upstairs - but still, the internet will not work up there.
So we've decided to move to BT, and have just received a letter that TalkTalk will charge us £243 for terminating the contract.
Does anyone know if there's any way to get out of this?

No, not if you are in a minimum term contract and have terminated early.
Switching to BT will probably make no difference to your wireless reception, a set of Homeplugs would have done the trick. The wireless reception within the property is not the responsibility of the ISP-their job ends at the router. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi FallenRoses,
If the service was moved midway through your contract then a cessation fee would automatically apply, unless this was surpressed by the Retentions Team.
The cancellation fee would be applicable unless there is a specific reason for disputing the fee.
Regards
Mark

TALK TALK YOUR TOTAL RUBBISH!!!
We have been customers for years yet without warning you cut us off !
Our crime was to discuss how to go with another provider!
we didnt because we were told we would have to pay £100 to exit the contract.
You even sent a letter thanking us for staying loyal.......YET THAT DAY YOU CUT US OFF !!!!
THAT WAS 36 DAYS AGO !!!!!!!
AND WE ARE STILL WAITING!!!!!
NO PHONE NO BROADBAND AND YOU CLAIM WE HAVE LOST OUR NUMBER!!!!!
YOU ONLY ADMITTED AFTER 25 DAYS THAT IT WAS YOU THAT DISCONNECTED US.......YOU BLAMED SKY AND REFUSED TO HELP ANYMORE!!!!!
THANKFULLY AFTER PLEADING WITH SKY TO HELP US ,THEY TOLD US TO DEMAND FROM TALK TALK THE ORDER THAT SKY WOULD OF SENT THEM REQUESTING TO PORT THE NUMBER...
OBVIOUSLY THERE WAS NO ORDER AND THEN YOU ADMITTED YOUR MISTAKE.
THEN TO ADD EVEN MORE INSULT YOU TRIED TO TAKE £96 FROM MY BANK PLUS LINE RENTAL AND TALK/BROADBAND PACKAGE CHARGES !!!
AND EVERY CALL I MAKE TO YOU IS VIA AN 0870 WHICH COSTS A FORTUNE ON A MOBILE......THEN I HAVE TO LISTEN TO STUPID MUSIC AND REPEAT MY SAGA TO NEARLY EVERY EMPLOYEE BEFORE I GET THROUGH TO THE RIGHT DEPT............WHO JUST SAY ......YOU WILL BE BACK ON LINE VERY SOON!!!!!!
TOTAL RUBBISH,TOTAL ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE.

No, because your post just comes over as a rant (and is IMPOSSIBLE TO READ ALL IN CAPS). So no one is likely to read it, including the TT rep.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you for your opinions which are noted.
After numerous e mails to Talk Talk and lodging an official complaint to them via their procedures and dealing with a dedicated complaint advisor in the CEO office, I am no further forward.
Therefore i am my wits end.
it is very easy for someone who has not had the sheer frustartaions that I have had to endure over the past month to accuse me of ranting, which I am happy to admit is proberly correct. I have tried to be reasonable and I appreciate that mistakes happen but what I cannot excuse is the lies after lies that Talk Talk have told. To blame another phone provider for over 3 weeks is beyond belief. All I want is my phone and internet to work correctly and seeing as I have paid for that Then i do not think that is too much to expect. My daughters are struggling to study for their exams, I have elderly relatives that I have had to keep in the loop regarding a family bereavement, they do not understand mobile phones etc and where I live a mobile phone signal is like british sunshine. So trying to arrange that funeral was extremley stressfull.
Relying on my customers to be able to contact me for my income is paramount, therefore no landline creates problems. it is fact that given a choice landlinbe number or a mobile number to call, people will always go for the landline, so workwise I have had problems.
This is ENGLAND not a third world country.:mad:0 -
If you cannot read capitals then I would suggest that you visit an optician0

And if you think that people will bother, I suggest you open a book, and see if you can find one typeset in capitals?
You don't really have to convince anyone on here that TT are abysmal, why else are they consistently rated among the worst ISP's?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
