After reading some of the posts on hduk I cancelled my order as many of them are talking of HMV going under. I don't know if any of this true and certainly hope it isn't for all the people that have placed orders. I may just be way too over cautious. Good luck and well done to everyone if it is 100%

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable on Contract Law and Sales than I will correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that:-
    1) No money is taken from your account or charged to your Credit card until the item is dispatched. This is the point retailers rely on when they cancel orders which have been accepted and confirmed. Because they have not actually taken money they can cancel the order if it is a mis-price.
    2) Section 75 protects the credit card holder if they buy something which they do not receive, is faulty etc....
So even if money is taken from your credit card, you are covered and will get the money back.

Have ordered this tablet. Can I use the orange dongle with this
to get internet access when away from home. (I realise I would need a usb adaptor) Thankyou in advance.:)

As I understand it (could be wrong, normally am), there's no need, you can just put the SIM out of the dongle in it.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Though I posted this deal last night, I didn't order one for myself until now. Can't believe it still shows as in stock. Surely they cannot have a spare 10,000 of these lying around?
Probably won't be honoured but worth a shot.

    Hi guys,

I have a few quick questions if anyone is able to kindly answer them, apologies that they are a bit simple but I'm not 100% familiar with how these tablets work with 3G.

If I have a smart phone am I able to access the internet through the phone's 3g?

Can you put movies onto the tablet, or is the case that you have to buy them from an app store?
I'd like to use the tablet to watch films, however unsure how this would work....

    Thanks

I've done a little research and took the plunge myself. I'm pretty sure it is a miss-price. It was near,y £500 a week or so ago.
It's generally around £350 or so, I think, so it's a very good bargain.

Wonder if we'll get it or not.

Don't kid yourself that this is worth £500.

As you can see by the description on the website, this 9-inch model is listed with a release date in 2011. Here's some discusion of it, written 15 months ago- quite positive, but remember 15 months is a long time in technology where everything gets twice as good while simultaneously dropping price a good chunk every year.

The basic version of the current model, the Galaxy Tab 2, 10.1" with a newer operating system retails at only £299 (see HMV here, for some reason still 'coming soon', or currys website here) and was available with £50 cashback from Samsung as a back-to-school/college promotion throughout July and August this summer, i.e. net price of £250. I got one for my Dad a couple of weeks ago from PC World.

Granted, the newer model I linked does not have 3G but you could tether it to your smartphone easily if you wanted to. If you did need that feature, the 3G version of the current model is just under £400 at Carphone Warehouse, Expansys et al.

HMV (and Tesco) are having a laugh listing the price of the 32gb model at £570, when a 16gb microSD card costs a fiver (turning a 16gb model into a 32gb one), and even a full 32gb Samsung branded memory card to take you from 16gb up to 48gb costs the princely sum of twenty pounds at Amazon. The only reason I can see for them to list it so extortionately is so that the 16gb one which they are trying to rapidly destock will look more of a bargain.

With the new model out, the only way for them to shift the old one is to massively discount the price. Aside from new operating system and better looks, the new "Tab 2" has a 7000mAh battery vs 6100 mAh on the old model; the extra 1.2" of screen diagonal translates into around 9 square inches of extra screen space (perhaps 25%?); meanwhile the thick borders around the screen are reduced so the whole device doesn't physically take up the expected proportionate extra space, and the new device only weighs around a hundred grams extra.

This is not to say it's not a good deal to buy a reputable 3G tablet for £150, as long as you know what you are getting and are comparing apples to apples when shopping. If you are actually going to use the 3G feature (because you don't have a smartphone and are not very often near a Wifi signal such as in your home, long-distance train, McDonalds or Starbucks/Costa/pub etc etc), then 150-200 for a device like this is indeed a bargain. Of course remember you'll need to pay a tenner a month or whatever for a sim card with your 3G allowance on it, so this will make the cost of running this over the next couple of years £240+ on top of the £150 purchase cost.

If you don't want 3G there are good deals to be found from time to time on newer models like the latest and greatest Nexus 7 (for a one handed 7" device) or the Tab 2 (for a 10" two-handed one).

I think people nervous about getting their orders filled on this deal will be pleasantly surprised that HMV do indeed want to get rid of these, but unpleasantly surprised if they thought they were getting a £500 device.;)

The 3G+wifi versions of these tablets have a sim card slot so you can get a data-only contract for it, separate from your phone contract. Then it can just connect itself to the net whenever it wants (if you let it).
If I have a smart phone am I able to access the internet through the phone's 3g?
Yes, if you don't want to get it its own SIM you could do this, depending on your phone type. I have a Galaxy S2 phone which has a standard feature "tethering" where the phone creates a network for one or more devices to connect to and share its 3G internet connection - either USB or as a wifi hotspot. An iphone (assuming its not an old model un-upgraded) can do it too (brief description here). So basically your phone can create a wifi hotspot sharing the internet, and your tablet can connect to a wifi hotspot: you're in business. It doesn't matter if your tablet is a '3G' model or not, because you are using the phone's 3G and the phone's billing plan to do this, the tablet is just using its wifi connection.
Can you put movies onto the tablet, or is the case that you have to buy them from an app store?

You can put movies onto it by plugging its USB cable into a PC, then your PC will see it as a hard drive and you can just drag and drop movies, photos, music etc. All android tablets let you do this.

The out-of the box player app on the tablet will play most filetypes just fine - although better player software plus most codecs you can think of will be available on the app store, either free and ad-supported, or at a cost of a pound or two. If the movies and music you want to put onto it is all DRM encoded copy protected stuff you bought off the apple store for example, you will have a harder time of it than if it's music you ripped off a CD yourself or a regular mpg/avi/mkv etc.

It does not have an onboard capability to add more memory, but you can attach a USB stick via a cheap adapter lead
