Tickets for Disabled People

Hi,
Any one know what the wheelchair platform at the arena in Nottingham is like and what the view is like please ?0 -
Don't bother going to The Deep in Hull they have a very narrow criteria for a free carers ticket.
The disabled person must require 1 to 1 care if not the cashier will ask questions regarding the disability and then decide if the person is disabled enough !!
This to me is a breath of fresh air! So often, tickets for disabled people and carers are given out with no questions being asked. In my opinion they should only be available to Blue Badge holders. Today, yet again, I phoned to get tickets for an event at Glasgow Hydro to be told it is sold out. It is not sold out, but is is sold out for wheelchair users! Yet I go to events and see many spaces allegedly for wheelchairs taken up by "carers", or disabled people who can walk to their seats. If you can manage at all in regular seating you should leave the disabled platform for people who really need it. It's not about getting free tickets for carers, it's about accessing a step-free area to watch a concert. I would be perfectly happy to pay for my carer's seat if it meant the misuse of the disabled seating would cease.
Not a dig at you ChrissyG, but the many other people who do this!
Thanks for indulging my rant0 -

It is not just those in wheelchairs that need to sit in a defined area though. Perhaps you should vent your frustration at the venue for providing insufficient seating, not at other disabled people?0 -
Wembley I had to provide medical evidence of my permanent disability, so I don't think that tickets are given out willynilly. The people I was sitting with at the event were all disabled, more so than myself and I can't go anywhere without my car with hoist and mobility scooter so I don't consider myself able bodied and have to have someone with me for outings. So perhaps you shouldn't judge the people in the seats unless you are in their shoes and know if they have a disability or not. If I am not in my wheelchair or scooter outwardly I look normal until I have to walk or stand up.I saw two shooting stars last nightI wished on them but they were only satellitesIs it wrong to wish on space hardwareI wish, I wish, I wish you'd care0

My experiences regarding the booking of disabled seating are on another thread and would love others to share theirs.
The booking process has been varied depending on the venue, but until you have attended each venue it is difficult to request seats in the most suitable disabled seating area for your individual needs.
I have had to provide proof for some venues whilst others have taken my word. Some have asked intrusive questions and been insensitive and others have not. There has also been a big difference in the way we have been treated and the service recieved when attending the venue hence I started the other thread.
I believe that the Blue Badge scheme is often abused and have been happy to register with venues using proof of benefits as confirmation of disability.
I agree with Orphie. We often feel judged when seated in the wheelchair area without a wheelchair, but if people were in our shoes only then would they understand. I wish we were fit and able enough to stand or sit elsewhere, but sadly the reality is we're not.0 -
I have no problem, couldn't do enough for me in most places but I do find that some of the older buildings don't have adaptions for me.0

It is good to get a carer to go places for free. They might not want to come to a particular place but if I as a disabled person need someone with me, then I need someone who is willing to come with me as my carer and that is as important a part of my car as my mobility car, or any sticks and such I might use.0

The Liverpool Echo Arena is a new modern and very good access for wheelchairs . Recently went to watch Queen Ft Adam Lambert and was a great gig but the bookings direct the assistance and help from very friendly staff made the experience very smooth and happy to go more often . hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have experience of this from a mental disability standpoint?
Physically I can manage to whichever seats I am given so wouldn't need to take up wheelchair space, but I have to have a carer with me as I have bad Bipolar and with that chronic anxiety disorder both of which I am considered disabled for and receive PIP.
It's that catch 22 where I look OK but I desperately need the carer and I have missed out on so many events I would have liked to go to because I can't afford two tickets and I'm terrified of being laughed at down the phone.Debt Free At Last! :T0
