Thought my boiler was about to explode!!

I've only been here a week and have a Baxi condensing boiler. The heating was on quite high and suddenly the radiator sounded like a pneumatic drill. I turned down the valve on the rad and it stopped. The noise was still going on in the airing cupboard where the pressure valve is. I turned the taps and the noise stopped but the pressure was between 3 and 4. I turned off the heating and the pressure is slowly coming down. I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm told that if the pressure drops you adjust the little taps but what happened tonight and should I get a plumber in?

    Whats the boiler model?

    Which taps did you turn?

If pressure got up to between 3 and 4 bar the Pressure Release Valve will have lifted and thats why pressure is now falling. PRV will need an engineer's attention as they never reseat themselves properly after they have lifted due to crud in the system.

If by adjusting the taps you mean opening the filling loop then all that will do is put more water in and then it will leak out via the PRV so that would be a waste of time.

Prolly need to call Heateam (Baxi/Potty Service Arm) out in the morning for a fixed price repair (0844 871 1545) or if you have it under contract with someone get them out to it.

If you don't know what you are doing the best advice I can give is don't use it until its been looked at.

    Cheers
