Bonfire Night - Opportunity

I have the chance of getting some cheap flashy products I think I could sell at my local councils bonfire night on the park. Do you need a license to just go and sell stuff? The brainy side of me says yes and I have emailed the council about it just now but someone here may be able to answer quicker than them

You would need a permit or permission to trade in the park, the same as ice cream sellers or someone who runs a fairground ride.
Most Councils will not allow you to do this, and if they do they may charge a lot.
But I have seen lots of european people in my local parks selling a number of different items, they don't seem to be stopped. As it's a one off the Council won't chase after the event and let's face it not many Council Officers work nights, the ones that do will be dealing with the bonfire and the issues that it will raise, i.e. Parking, Crowds... So on....
I think you could make loads, I had to pay £6 for a flashing hair net thing last week at my local carnival!!!!0 -
Glowstick bracelets - pack of 24 for a quid or two, sell em on for 50p each... Just wind your way through the crowd and if you get stopped, apologise and get out...
However, it may be sustainably better to doing this all above board, ask the council about it, and think what other lines you could carry if you had the right facilities/permission? Plant a gazebo and display stuff properly? Sell hot chocolate with marshmallows? Sell marshmallows with skewers for roasting on the fires? Sell cheapo umbrellas - cost maybe a pound each (get them sale or return), sell for £4 or 3 for a tenner. Handwarmers. Sparklers, even (not sure of the legals on firework sales, mind). Baked potatoes. Make a proper job of it!0 -
The above poster makes a good point. I know these glow sticks sell at £1 each at all the events that I attend in central england.
I have a burger van, but we haven't been booked for anything yet! I hope you make a go of this, sounds really good idea, you must have noticed that there is space for you at your local bonfire anyway otherwise you wouldn't have the ideas.
Where I live there are 10+ of these people, that said, they all do okay0 -
Out of interest how do I find a wholesaler that sells these flashy things, ive been searching the internet and not found any that I can go to, thanks in advance0
