Euro Car Parks - can we appeal?

  • Thanks for the advice guys, so we should file it away and forget about it. Or write a letter stating we refuse to pay (stating that as a disabled blue badge holder in a disabled bay we are entitled to free time?) Apparently the ticket was issues for not putting a valid ticket in thebay from 10.40am to 11.30am. Even though they were there until 5pm?

  • Thanks Valli.

Won't they come chasing my sister for the money. It's just a stress she doesn't need. If a debt collector letter comes through the door she'll really panic. I probably wouldn't worry too much but a new baby makes a mum pretty emotional!!
  • I have just cut and paste my original post to the forum you mentioned Valli, mods can delete this one if they want....Not that I don't trust your words or those of the Tupperware Queen...just wanted to make sure everyone hated Euro Car Parks that little bit more!!!!

    Thanks for your advice :)

They might send letters, just, please, ignore. They cannot come to the door for money without first going to court to prove the debt. This won't happen; read the relevant stickies on the parking forum (stickies are the first few threads in any part of the forum containing key information). They may try to chase the registered keeper (sister?) but they will give up.

At least you asked first, unlike my brother in law who paid one of these so promptly I couldn't have stopped him unless I'd been there. He was LIVID when he found out, from me, he needn't have paid at all!

Why do I have this horrible feeling, that they will pay up, to avoid the stress/hassle.

Why's that such a bad thing? Personal circumstances aside, they did use the service that has an associated cost. Now, I cannot paint car park operators with a rosy brush and say they are all angels, but they are a business providing a service people want to use. That service carries a fee. Why should people not pay that fee?

Yes, technically it is an invoice not a fine, however much like any other unpaid invoice they are quite within their rights to pursue it with debt collection agencies and the courts. Just because they have given up chasing debts in the past doesn't mean they will or even should give up on all debts. If they operate the car park on behalf of the council or NHS or wherever, they will be paying the council/NHS etc to do so. Unpaid bills don't stick it to the man, they stick I to all of us NHS users/taxpayers and council tax payers.

I just don't get why parking should be seen as different to say a taxi, cinema, restaurant, supermarket etc??

I'm not an expert on car parking, but I would imagine, there will be people who will answer you with regards these sort of companies. Several of them have been featured on programme such as Watchdog for there working practices, so I'm guessing they take liberties.
