Went into waitrose today with my mum...wasn't planning on getting anything but mooched about anyway...found they had reduced a leg of lamb from ten quid to three and got three very large duchy chickens reduced from 15 to three quid each! Freezer is bursting to full!

I like nipping into Tesco on Monday around 6.55pm if I can. It can be hard to get the time right but Monday is deal day as a rule and I can get loads of fruit / veg / bread and the odd meal ingredients from chiller at cracking prices. I don't go every week as I am trying to cut down and eat what we have but I rarely buy full price items at all now - shop savvy!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

  • We have found that our local Marks and Spencer foodhall peaks with its discounts around 5.15pm. It's great for the next day's lunch boxes and occasional surprises. £12 birthday cake for 80p etc. You can't do your weeks shop there but for odds and sods it's great.

Nobody has mentioned Morrisons as far as i can see . What would be the best time to check them out for food at a reduced price ?
  • I've just started doing this. We have a 24 hour Tesco nearby and they start doing final markdowns at 7pm.
It's been very good so far. I make homemade soup for our lunches so whatever veg gets marked down goes in the soup. I make a huge pot and when it runs out I go yellow sticker hunting and make the next batch. Seeing as much of the marked down veg is that pre-chopped expensive stuff that I'd never dream of buying normally it saves me the chopping so it's very convenient. We have bread with our soup - I've got cheese ciabatta slices for 13p a pack. I would *never* have bought these at the original price. Lunch is coming in at about 30p per portion, so far.
Curry is another good thing to make with the bargain veg. You can then eat it with the bargain naan - these are always marked down really cheap.
It helps that we eat mostly vegetarian although we aren't proper veggies, only poverty veggies, the one thing I've not figured out yet is when they mark down the meat. I've guests this weekend and they're carnivores so we will be cooking meat.

  • Our local mozzies is definately hit & miss,we have been there at 4pm and had tons of stuff, went there Tuesday same time and not literally a sausage to be had.
But this store has a massive footfall as it is near to the Rail station and Bus station.
A guy from work trails all the supermarkets every single day for bargains and definately gets loads at all times of the day and night, but he gripes me a bit as he regularly gloats how he snatches everything off the shelves,he doesn't have a family and I think that is plain greedy, who really eats 52 chocolate bars two days after their end date?

Some of the offers you get are great- like the next days lunch items on your way home from work and the odd pack of muffins etc!
Some of what is described (in certain supermarkets, i must add) is like being at a cattle market! Everyone pawing over the produce and pushing and shoving to save 30p on the bananas!
  • The next four days lunches are on the stovetop right now. We will be having carrot and coriander soup (made with 3 x Tesco Finest Chanteray carrots at 15p a punnet) served with Warburtons wholemeal flatbreads (13p a pack).
Tonight we are having vegetarian paad thai - with some of the carrots and 9p beansprouts.
I did well tonight, two big bags of shopping for £2.59.

I rarely see yellow stickered items for just a few pence.
I suppose I don't go at the right time, but as I have to factor in diesel to get there, it's not worth a special trip on the off chance.
Perhaps I should dust off the old bike...

  • I am terrible for going in hunt of bargains! I have a friend who works for Tescos and has told me that 7-7.30pm is the time they reduce to 90% off. Last night i got steak reduced from £7.38-£1.08! Also key lime pie and tropicana down to 30p..Also the night before i went to asda around 8pm and got flat breads 30p,rhubarb crumbles and chocolate trifle all for around 70p. In this day and age where we are all struggling it helps to give the children treats that i would normally not be able to buy for them :) i love bargain hunting :) Oh also around 8pm got 2 cooked hot chickens from my co-op down to £1.25 from £4.99!!!! It is hit and miss and also an effort sometimes but it's also fun! :)
Main prize win myself, and 3 children enjoyed an all inclusive trip to Walt DisneyWorld Florida with £1500 spending money!!! Amazing!!!!!..Back to serious comping again after a break of 6 months :)))
