How long do Local Authority searches actually take?

This is my first property purchase.
My solicitor has submitted the searches and says they'll take 3 weeks to complete.
They are being done by NLIS and are done online from what i can gather.
On the councils website it says postal searches take a maximum of 10 days while online is much quicker.
I have seen some sites stating that NLIS searches take 2 days..
Is 3 weeks normal or should i be chasing them up still? we have already lost a few weeks down to the solicitors and want to minimise any more delay.

They vary enormously. Tower Hamlets told me the other day that they were taking 25-30 working days to process official local searches!RICHARD WEBSTER

If the solicitors use NLIS then if the Council is equipped for electronic searches then they will come back fairly quickly, but if they are not you simply paying an extra amount for NLIS to print out a paper search and post it off!RICHARD WEBSTER
