Rescue cats won't come downstairs

If they've not had collars before then take them off, most cats hate collars at first try and you've really got to start using them at a young age to get a cat to tolerate it. And the bell will make things x 100 worse, a 12 year old cat that doesn't go out isn't much of a threat to the bird population anyway tbh. If the collars are what's upsetting them then get them chipped and get used to looking at them "naked", lol, it's their necks after all!

good on you for adopting two old ladies.They are so often forgotten. I agree with putting the food outside the room. They will have to come out then. I got a 9 years old one from somebody who could no longer keep her. She is gorgeous. It's been 9 months now and while she will come into the other rooms and sleeps on my bed, she still has trouble with my 3 other cats, who are between 8 and 16. She is not terrified of them but runs when she sees them coming, they of course think it's great fun and chase her. However she seems happy enough. I have tried feliway and i am now going to try Bach rescue remedy.
Best of luck with them and it will be frustrating at times but you will get there. Mine goes outside now and i don't need a litter tray at all.
