More Collect + woes

After my fiasco last Christmas with Collect plus I used them again two or three times in the spring using free codes I was given as an apology (I sent books to a specialist charity shop).

I then used them again during the summer, maybe two or three times and on each occasion stuff arrived just within the week, which was OK. Most recently I sent an item about 3 weeks ago with them, again arrival took about 6 days.

Just sourced an item that is 4.9 kg boxed and took my first one down to Collect + today only to find that the shop no longer accepts Collect plus due to 'issues'.

Argghhh, had to call for a lift home, check online to see what other shops accepted it, get a lift to the new shop (no parking) and drop it off. Thank heavenes I can limit this new line to the 4 original ones I bought- I couldn't realistically manage to do that without getting a parking ticket for very long

Incidentally, the Collect plus site still states the shop I tried to use is an authorised drop off point. So if using Collect plus it may be worth checking with the shop to make sure they accept it- before you set out.

  • If they stopped accepting parcels at my local drop-off point, I would stop using them altogether.

I only use them for the convenience of dropping off within a five minute walk from the house.

That's my 2 local shops both stopped dealing with Collect plus now, I had no warning and there is no notice on the one today that they no longer take Collect plus items.

  • I think the whole set-up is a bit of a shambles to be honest.

Although I've not had a problem with items being delivered, it can take an age and the online tracking is crazy. So it is of no surprise really that the website is unreliable.

I suppose ultimately you have to ask yourself if you need to use them. Will the cost/time getting them to your nearest drop-off point still make them the 'cheaper' option? Is there an alternative?

For me it is simply a case of finding something else to sell. The item I found makes sense if I can keep my postage cheap enough, since I can't- I will sell the few remaining ones and then I won't need to use a courier unless I decide to tackle another cupboard ot tat and list on my private account.
