MSE News: Co-op, Halifax and Lloyds customers hit by banking chaos

I've been trying to get money out since 2pm without luck and am hugely annoyed at the lack of info on the Halifax website, I shouldn't have to spend 20 minutes on the phone on hold to find out that their computers that deal with the bank balances are down and they are working to get it fixed - that should be on the front pages of the banks involved as soon as they realise the extent of it.
I'm supposed to be going to a big convention tomorrow in London, but it's looking like that won't be happening if they don't get their backsides in gear, or getting to work either. They should bring back chequebooks with all bank accounts so that we can still make payments whilst they sort out things like this - the move to everything being on plastic just isn't safe enough and people can't be expected to have to get a credit card that they either don't want or really shouldn't have for safety. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. All my income goes into my coop account but I transfer enough money for outgoings onto 3 different prepaid cards so I at least have something to fall back on.BSC Member 3510

It isn't just the ATMs that are affected. I know for a fact that Asda and Sainsbury card machines all failed and cards were being declined. A lot of people just dumped their shopping and walked off, luckily I had drawn out my usual monthly housekeeping this morning.
I do not trust banks and every month I pull out every penny that is not needed for mortgage or direct debits, plus a float.
I pay cash for everything that I possibly can too.
This is the second banking crash this year and I would advise OPs to do the same as I do.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Just managed to log on to coop internet banking and all balances show up.
Hope that debit transactions are now fixed too.BSC Member 3510 -
Co-op Bank are reporting the issue fixed and all systems back up and running as of 4:35pm this afternoon. They tweeted...Hi all, just to let you know that our systems are fixed and customers should now be able to use their accounts as normal...0

I wonder if this was a backend change related to the Lloyds branch sale to the Coop.0

Just got off the phone with Halifax again, systems are coming back online and we should be able to access cash from ATMs shortly. They can't say it will be all ATMs but they are starting to work again, will head out in 30 minutes and give a couple a try and report back if no official announcement has been made by then. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all.
