Worth Considering?

My wife is expecting our 3rd child (due date past) and for one reason or another I haven't sorted out a car yet (ours doesn't fit 3 child seats).

I spotted a car local to us (trader) but am not sure about it.

On the DVLA the date of Liability is 28/11/2011 which seems a while without Tax - Car is registered as unlicensed.

Got the V5C no and checked the MOT History:

Year 1 (3 years after Reg) 24k
Year 2 42k
Year 3 46k (Last October)
Current 47k

Garages were London based, but still not a lot of mileage in the last few years.

If there were plenty of the cars I'm looking for about I'd have probably ignored this one but there isn't.

Added to that my MOT is due as is a few other things so my car will cost me a chunk so considering taking a punt on this.

Thoughts?

I'd say it's been wound back and lost some miles. Very easy to do, and very prevalent on cars that get used as taxis and things.
Only a VERY full service history would persuade me - but of course, you can always lose/forge receipts and stamps.
A Full HPI check might help as they list milages.

Double triple check that EVERYTHING adds up and tallies. Consider checking dealerships/servicing garages for verificattion of history.

    HOW MUCH!!! ???

You can get newer ones than that for less. Ones without the dodgy history to make you wonder.

Look for an ex lease vehicle direct with a decent set of paperwork. Or one owner at most.

Avoid anything that makes you think twice.

    No shortage.

Where can I find those as everywhere I've looked has them at a higher price for the model I want (1.4 or 2.0 Diesel)?

    Cheers

If it's ex lease direct, that'll be auction. No warranty, no comeback, a couple of minutes viewing.
And you'll be bidding against the dealers.

You might also be bidding against the wall. You'd need to go a few times to make sure you know what is going on!

However, this one has you asking questions. Plus, it seems like you feel it's cheap.

So, it's possibly dodgy and it's cheap... I'd certainly be looking to pay a bit more for a car I'd trust. That or rip this one apart before parting with the hard earned.

    5t.

What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

How many miles will you do in it? Mostly short journeys? If so a DPF maybe an issue for you.

Where can you find them, Autotrader, Ebay etc.

I got mine from a dealer who bought it from auction. Not his type of car normally but the price persuaded him. Added £500 on and sold it to me.

Unless you do a huge amount of miles a low mileage car isnt worth the extra money they want for them.

High miles in short time = a car thats driven a great distance daily so few cold starts and a lot of motorway speeds. Very little wear.

Sold my 2L petrol car with 150,000 miles and it sounded better than the cars that were 4 years newer with less than half that mileage on them.

    Condition is more important.
