Anybody recommend which garden shredder I should get.I am always cutting down trees, conifers and plants etc and our garden is about 25ft by 100ft and then out the front another 100ft by 15ft.

I can't recommend any shredders but I bought one of B & Q's own make for about £75 last year and it was absolute rubbish. Kept jamming and only cut very thin branches. I would suggest that you be very wary and, if possible, you have one that you can test first. I can't help thinking that DIY shredders are not worth the moneyI'm Glad to be here... Garden shredders - big subject.
There are basically 3 types of domestic shredder, Impact (spinning blade blades or wheel), Corckscrew or Spiral and finally Drum or gear mechanism.
Typical Costs are Impact (£50+), Spiral(£180+), Gear (£250+)
If you go for the low end impact type look for one with more than one blade
but personally i wouldn't touch one of this type they are simply not very good.
Noise is also a big issue with shredders if like most people you have neighbours. Some shredders are incredibly noisy at >105dB which is about the level of the middle row of a rock concert.
The better ones will be around 85dB which is more like a motor mower.
I would recommend you go for at least a mid range spiral cutter and better still a gear cutting machine if you can. Have a look at the Bosch ATX silent range and the Atco range (same thing Bosch own Atco). These are good value machines that do the job.0
