Joint to Single Claim Compliance Letter

HI, Im new on this, but I have been looking for info regarding my query.

I split with my partner back in July. We were on a joint tax credits award. I tried to ring them but could never get through, continuously on hold, so on 14 August, I wrote to them with all the information they would require to change the claim from a joint to a single. My tax credits then stopped on 28th August and when I telephoned and DID manage to get through I was told that because it had been a month???! i had to complete a new claim form. So, a week or so later, that arrived. I filled it in straight away and posted it the same day.

I have been ringing every morning at 8am for the past week and have been told "its with head office for processing"..... I then telephoned this morning and was informed that there was a letter sent to me 2nd October requesting information from the compliance team! The lady would not give me any contact numbers for the compliance team, and after a bit of googling, I found the number I needed in Blackpool! Anyway, I rang and was told they require my wage slips since July and invoices/receipts for childcare. I have my wage slips, the problem is the invoices/receipts for childcare. He did say on the phone that I can ask for a letter, but my childcare provider isnt very good at these things (been here before)....he said it should state they both attend and the cost. So ive drafted a brief letter which Im going to take tonight to the childcarer and ask her to sign it, just stating they attend and the daily rates and I have then done a hand draft of how I got my figures for the annual childcare rate, ie total divided by 52. is this enough??? I have been waiting for almost 6 weeks now, and we are desperate!!! I got told this morning, can I not apply for a crisis loan???? I work, why would I be eligible for a crisis loan??? any advice appreciated!!! x

The childminder should be registered and therefore have given you a contract. She should also give you a recipt for the payments you make in cash. I always did when I was a childminder.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Thought you was now single? Your child care arrangements does seem abit suspect. Do you not have a contact with childcare with rates etc?

    Could mean her and child?

I took it to Mean the op and her child ...

Why on earth would it mean anything else... The op has come here asking for help not suspicion and accusations... Remember be nice and supportive to money savers..

Monkey I hope you never need help if that is how you treat someone coming here for help...

Crisis loans are available to ANYONE in crisis not just people receiving means tested benefits, see http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/On_a_low_income/DG_10018856
  • Why do my childcare arrangements seem suspicious? The children attend the school club which IS ofsted registered, otherwise how else would I be able to claim childcare costs?
Also if you read what I have wrote, my claim is going from a joint to a single claim, hence me being SINGLE. I have made several changes this year and I presume that is why they have asked for further info.

Thank you for letting me know that I can claim a crisis loan, I will be looking into that, that is the only good advice I have received here. The rest of you are like whippets, why would tax credits be HARD on me when all I have been is honest??? Did my post deserve a reply like yours??? Who are you, the tax credits ombudsman??

I certainly won't be asking for advice here again...You shouldn't judge people or assume.

Don't be too harsh - Think of your wording.

Using "we" in a single situation isn't the most appt choice of wording.

I would use "me" not "we".

If one or more person picked up on an unfortunate word slip - the DWP may.

Just take it as a constructive critisicm that your meaning can be interpreted in a different way.

I also don't get receipts from my Out of Schools - so I do know where you are coming from, just maybe use "I" instead of "we" when talking to Tax Credits to avoid any issues.
  • I used `we` once when I was referring to a joint claim, if you read after that I use `i`. Yes isn't easy when the cc provider doesn't comply and I have been here before a couple of years ago when I was reviewed and waited 3mths for cc provider to write a letter. Thanks.
  • Thanks Monkey, although i really haven't anything to hide and basically write/speak how I would say it! I refer to 'we' a lot as myself and the children!

its all with the compliance team now, so hopefully it should go through for next week. isnt easy when you've spent your wages on bills and have zero left and have to ask your parents for a sub...... at my age!!! what annoys me though is yes, stop the WTC whilst the claim is going through but at the end of the day, i still have 2 children who need and are entitled to the CTC....its just been a ball ache!!!
