Mr Site requested my Paypal login details!

Just looking for some thoughts on this really as it has left me gobsmacked.

I am using Mr Site to set up my online shop. I was getting an error message when trying to place a test order on my online shop so I went on their Live Chat function to ask one of their 'Gurus' what the problem was.

After I confirmed that I had set my paypal settings up as per the user guide the Guru then asked me to give him my paypal log in details so that he could go into my paypal account and check that I had put the right information in! I explained that I was not prepared to give him the log in details to my paypal account as he would then have access to my bank details etc. He then just left the chat room.

I have sent an email to Mr Site with a transcript of the conversation stating that this was an unacceptable thing to ask their customers and that I still hadn't had my order problem resolved but is there someone else I should complain to about this? I am concerned that these people who are supposed to be professionally supporting you are asking for personal details as some people would give them the details they were asking for.

He should of walked you through the process stating: "Now put your password into the password box, Make sure that setting is ticked, Etc". He should not of asked you for the details so he can check them. I would definitely report him because he could be robbing others of the paypal account (i.e. buying stuff through their account). It does happen. My friend got stung by O2 when one of their younger workers went on a shopping spree with customers credit details, including my friend's. So the same could happen here if this man is not reported.

If you know how to paste HTML code into Mr Site you can actually create PayPal buttons yourself via the PayPal website.

    Anyway, what was the error?

Here is a youTube video that explains shopping cart setup:

YouTube has many answers/tutorials that can help. Unfortunately, many people don't check out (pun intended!) the excellent array of tutorial videos found on YouTube and other video websites.

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here. Mr Site is no place to be if you want to develop a real business.

  • I have learnt many lessons from using Mr Site and could rant all day about them but i'm not going to. I'm working on moving away from using Mr Site at the moment anyway.

Thanks for that link WilliamO. I will take a look at that and adding the html for the paypal buttons. The error message was 'Oops! Looks like your payment gateway's not properly set up. If you are the owner of this site please check your payments settings'.

I thought I would ask on the Live Chat as I thought it might have been something that they see a lot of and would have been able to point me in the right direction straight away.

I sent a complaint email yesterday requesting an immediate reposnse but have not heard anything yet. I will put something in writing today.
