I have a 4th gen ipod with over 10gb of music stored on it.
I previously installed all of the software onto a laptop and downloaded my music with no problems at all. I had the itunes manager set to manual installer so that I did not have to save all of my music on my laptop (wasting memeory).
My laptop has since died and I have bought a desktop unit with VISTA installed. I have installed my old itunes driver disk and the software but, when I connect my ipod, it is saying that there is a problem with the itunes files and to reinstall itunes. This is continually happening.
I have even tried downloading the new version of itunes but am still not getting any joy.
When my ipod is connected, It is not being recognised in the itunes library. Hope this makes sense to somebody and they can help me.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Damn thing still not working. God I hate computers some days.
OK so far i have done the following. Installed the Itunes disc. It loads up and then when I connect my Ipod, it does not recognise it and I have no library on the screen. I then get the message "reinstall software". I have checked the devices and it shows the ipod attached in E drive (?) is this correct?
I have then tried downloading the version 7.1.1 of itunes and it does not open or update the itunes that is currently on here.
Its really starting to annoy me know. Can this be due to Vista?

well itunes do's work with vista put not very well with vista 64,you have to find the driver for the ipod, vista will ask you for it and let it find it for you(on your pc or on the net it will look) or send it to the folder where it is , do not open itunes first.
p.s. you need itunes 7.1.1 or the one before it,do not us an old version of itunes on a disk
and the song on your ipod will not go on your pc itunes only works one way from pc to ipod not ipod to pc,
make a backup off your song when you put them on the pc so you can put then back in itunes for your ipod
sorry read your post right this time thats why the editesthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
Not all the issues with iTunes and Vista are sorted yet, have a look here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305042
You can also use something like SharePod to get your music off iPod.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0
