accidental damage

hi all, this morning our 2 year old son has thrown toys at the television screen resulting in 3 star shaped cracks, its an expensive 60" 3D plasma screen and im worried how ill be able to replace such an item. we're insured with homelet tenancy+.. the policy states accidental damage cover but is unclear about who or what is covered, my concern is that it will only cover the landlords items even though we rent an unfurnished property. ive never had to make a claim on insurance before so any advice would be much appreciated

It looks like accidental damage to audio/visual equipment is included in Section 2 Contents but it also says that Contents is an optional cover.
Do you include contents cover?
Is this your policy booklet?

Looking at their current policy, there is no accidental damage cover for all your own contents. Insurers do change cover terms so you need to check your own policy as some include AD to entertainment equipment as standard
I would certainly seriously recommend shopping around though next year if you've got expensive items! I did a quick quote and stopped by the time it got to £1,000 for my cover required -v- my own insurance that covers everything we have inc accidental damage for £185 a year0 -

Thanks for your reply, after checking the insurance certificate it states we have tanancy+ cover upto £5000 contents, I've called the claim department, they've taken details to pass on to head office... Sat here beside myself with worry awaiting them to call me back0 -
Did the letting agent "Insist" you took out this policy?0

Yea the advised us to use homelet insurance.. We rent through whitegates
You'll realise from the question that it was loaded. Don't ever, ever accept advice from a letting agent on any subject.
They were paid for referring you to Homelet. This comission came from the overpriced premium you paid.0 -
If they've sold you a home contents policy with total cover of £5000, you really need to look for a new insurer at renewal or asap.
As Hugo mentioned they sold it to you for the 35% commission Homelet paid them. They cannot insist you take out cover with them0
