  • Hi,

many thanks for the new posts. Still haven't solved this!

Phoodless, thanks for your link - no, the spades are not like the link you have given. On the element I've taken out they are just completely flat. I've taken a photo of it but don't know how to upload it here?

On espares website, the one I have is most like the one called "Ariston 2000 Watt Fan Oven Element", stock number ES101804 - with the two flat prongs. The connectors on the wires in my oven are just flat-ish metal things which slide directly over these flat prongs.

As my oven is 2000W rated and this Ariston element is 2000W I assume it's safe to replace it with this, even though it is not the manufacturer's recommended part. Clearly whoever owned/fixed this oven before me put in the same "wrong" Ariston element and it has been working okay until now.

I've tried asking espares if this would be okay but understandably they won't give advice for health and safely reasons in case something goes wrong and will only recommend the Zanussi one which has the totally different connectors and I'm definitely not competent enough to start trying to change the connectors.

Beginning to wish I'd never started trying to fix this myself .... any help gratefully received!

I think what you're desribing is exactly the same thing - apart from the one I've linked to has double connectors each side - so you would only use one each side and the earth in the middle.

Having said that - as long as the rating is the same and the size fits the oven - then I don't see any reason why you can't fit an alternative element ??

I had a similar situation (See Here) - in the end, I ordered what was described as a "Belling" element and received exactly the same that I had removed anyways (Not marked as a Belling) - and it works absolutely fine.

  • Hello Phoodless,

Thank you so much for your helpful reply. I think that's what was confusing me - on the elements which have two connectors on each side, I thought I would have to have some sort of different connector on the wiring in the oven that would attach to both of the connectors, i.e. two on the left and two on the right - I didn't realise that you could only connect to one of these on each side, in which case the connector on the wiring would work with these.

They don't make is easy do they?! I've emailed so many of the online spare parts people and some come back recommending a two turn and others a 3 turn, mostly with the the two connectors each side. Finally got on to the Zanussi website and their parts section actually says that this used to be a 3 turn element, but is now a 2 turn.

I'm beginning to think they are all exactly the same, so long as you go for the right wattage rating and they will actually fit in the available space in your oven. Some of the generic looking ones on ebay are really cheap, compared to the ones that are stated as being the manufacturer's recommended part being three times the price.

Will just bite the bullet and go for a cheapy that looks like the one I've taken out and hope for the best. Really want some roast spuds soon ...

Thanks again for your help and the links.
  • Oh my God, what a palaver(sp?), but have finally sorted this out and now have a lovely hot oven again - so thank you for all the replies.

I ordered the exact same "Ariston" element as the one which had been put into my Zanussi oven and it seems to be working a treat.

Bought it on ebay at the bargain price of £6.25 with free p&p so was very pleased with this deal.

It does seem as if these elements may be "generic", so long as you have the wattage rating correct and it physically fits in the space.

I'd definitely encourage anyone else with an oven which is not heating up to try to fit a new element themselves as I saved almost £100 as this was about the cost of getting someone out to fit it (although, accept it would have been done in a day, rather than a week and a bit!!).
