It seems very weird. So their main complaint was that there were 2 of you who had had too much to drink and one person was a bit drunk and messing about with phones whilst you apparently did nothing to cause a problem?
They appear to think that you were representing the company though and it reflects badly on the company .
What was the written warning for? bringing the company into disrepute or something? Were the hotel the clients in any case or were you merely just staying at the hotel?
All seems very strange to me.

You both got drunk and collectively brought disrepute upon your company. Also somehow I doubt that your employers definition of being a bit drunk doesn't extend to getting absolutely wasted on their credit cards.

I'd sack you personally as I can't see how you would be fit to work as you'd still be intoxicated from the night before. You only get rid of one unit of alcohol per hour and it would've been less than 6hrs between them having to deal with you disturbing everyone else at the hotel and starting work. Please god say you didn't drive from the hotel to where you were holding the event because you would have been well and truly over the drink drive limit.

Take the written warning and next time behave like the adult you are and not some 17 year old kid and lay off the booze.

    Hi,

The warning seems to be for bringing the company into disrepute which I seem to have done by just being with someone else? I will be able to tell you exactly why when I receive the letter confirming the warning.

The hotel was just where work were putting us up, we use them a lot and specifically we use this one annually for our event.

I just don't know what I could of done any different..... When I asked what I should of done in the situation they told me that's something I need to ask myself....

If they were to sack everyone who got drunk then everyone would of gone including the boss organising it. I wouldn't say I was "wasted" and all I have done differently is return a little later? My supervisor told me I did an excellent job on the day so nothing is in question about performance. And no I didn't drive anywhere.

And I just want to say one other thing... You mention about getting wasted on the company card, that was back at the hotel where I mentioned other people (not me) we drinking on the company. We went elsewhere after the meal and drunk at our own expense.

We had 3-4 at the meal. I would say in total I had enough that I was drunk but not wasted.

I think you need to appeal this if you feel you were an innocent party.

what has happened to the other guy

Probably the best action at the time would have bene to make yourself scarce as soon as the other guy kicked off but then we don't always think straight/quickly after a few beers.

As it turned out the other guy was emigrating the next week so I think he had a meeting but didn't get chance to speak to him about it or find out what happened. I was also told not to speak with him about it. In our day to day job we don't tend to see each other as we do completely different jobs etc.

Quite a difficult thing to make a judgement about yourself!

As its coming round to Christmeal Time at work, we get warned that ANY action that could bring where I work into disrepute CAN lead to possible dismissal as it is an event organised through work EVEN though its offsite.

Take the warning, learn your lesson, and remember NOT to get drunk next time.

If you appeal you MAY get yourself into further trouble and may you use the info about the credit cards against you, as where I work that is misuse of offical property and gross misconduct = sacking.

One good reason why myself and my work colleagues used to organise our own Christmas !!!!-up.
