Yes it is a website dedicated to saving money. But when the cheap option actually in most cases causes more problems than it cures, it isn't the best option.

If the hard drive has physical damage, shoving it in a caddy like you would only guarantee that more data is lost.

If I knew the HDD was physically damaged and had data worth more than the cost of recovery, I would go for a clean room.

My point was that I would not be handing it over to a bog standard computer repair shop, for them to do exactly what the OP could do on her own for £4.

Trying to score cheap points does nothing to help with wheat is left of you credibility.

    Thanks.

At least they didn't charge me to tell me I was stuffed :o.

Looking for a new one now, guessing it's worth paying a bit extra for 500gb rather than 250?

You are looking at around £40 for 320GB or £50 for £500 GB.

    Examples here and here

    Priceless....

A couple of typos from an annoying keyboard is nothing compared to posting completely inaccurate information. ;)

Stop bickering boys or I'll slap your legs. Thanks for advice, HD ordered.........
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I guess the initial noise might have been the hard disk and not the fan...

Whilst you are waiting, you can decide which version of Windows 7 you would like to install:

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1-U ISO (Refresh) 32bit

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1-U ISO (Refresh) 64bit Recognises more RAM than the 32 bit version.

Once you have saved the image to a working computer:

To create the disc from the image, you can use ImgBurn. Download and install it to the laptop.
    You'll need a blank DVD.
    Here is a guide.
