Can i block a potential buyer?

There is a potential buyer REALLY bugging me. I have had a few emails from him via contact a seller. i'll write "qwertyuiop" insted of the real name.... although its tempting!
I'll explain item quickly. a feeding item for a chicken - so could be ok for farmers or people with pet chickies, like myself. Selling as too big for my girls. listed at £5 doubt will go near a tenner to be honest.
Listed as collection from my home town.
First message "hi i am interested in buying these from you i have someone in that district so could you ring me on 077xxxxxx asap it will be cash regards qwertyuiop"
I am at work when this is recieved, 1,30pm tues.
next one at 9pm tues "hi i sent you a message to tell i would buy and pick up 03/10/12 but you have not responded regards qwertyuiop"
I reply saying no, i will not sell off of ebay and i was at work.
next one "hi julie i am sorry i thought i was buy it buy it now regards qwertyuiop" sent yesterday.
I get another one today "hi its qwertyuiop who thought i was buy it now would you post it if so how much would it cost regards qwertyuiop"
I reply and state £8 to £8.80 as this is geniunely what 2 postal companies have quoted.
And i was really hoping he would sod off by this point but no,
another message in the last hour.
"hi thanks for trying with postage if i buy i will pay thought p/p if i win i can collect abought 15th and pay cash regards qwertyuiop"
What on earth does this even mean?
I know i do NOT want this man at my doorstep, he's pushy, impatient and odd. Maybe if it was a £100 ish transaction i'd humour telling this fool my home address.
So my question is, if I block him, will he know? What happens to what he sees? will the item vanish as though the auction was cancelled or will it tell him I blocked him?
Will he see my email adress and keep bugging me?
I dread the email beep on my phone incase its him again, timewasting and annoying. Arrrrrg!
I've never needed to block a buyer during an auction - i've blocked non-payers from ever rebidding on my auctions in the past though.
Advice rather welcomed!

To be honest I just read this as someone who wants to buy your item but doesn't live in your area and either only comes in occasionally or has a friend/employee who does.
I cover a large region for work and have had successful bids on a couple of items but really needed to pinpoint a date and time for pick up. Once I picked up a large heavy framed print from an outbuilding and posted my cash (£3.45!) in an envelope through the front door. No-one was at home and obviously this relies on trust.
We did have an email exchange about this first and hopefully she didn't think I was pushy, impatient or odd but just as someone who was making use of company petrol expenses. It was only a couple of miles off my designated route between meetings and it just cost me the equivalent in petrol. It would have been £15 P&P otherwise.
I'd personally be pleased he wants to buy and tell him cash on collection and arrange a time for pick up.Saving money right, left and centre0 -
If you feel uncomfortable then block them and/or maybe end the listing and re-list at a later date.
You would have a stranger collecting the item up from you at some point.
There is also an option to “Don't allow blocked buyers to contact me” in Site Preferences/Buyer requirements/Edit at the bottom of page.0 -
