how do i install android games?

Ive got a new sony Xperia Miro phone so I thought i would download some free legal games. Ive been on a website and downloaded a free boxing game which I downloaded to my pc. The file is a 'apk' file.

Ive plugged my phone into the usb and put the file into my download folder on my phone. When i open my phone and go to the dl folder there is nothing there? Ive search the game for my phone and it seems correct. What am i doing wormg? Any help please.

I didn't think you can uninstall Google Play, did you just remove it off the home screen? it will still be in your app tray if so.

to install apks (ie any app not installed though a market) you need to explicitly allow it.

It should be under settings security, unknown sources

You don't need Apps2SD at all, that is to move installed apps to the SD card to save space on the internal memory.

To install the apk that you have saved on the SD card you need an installer such as ASTRO file manager, after that is installed use it to navigate your SD card and install the apk

Ive downloaded a apk file and put it into the download folder on my phone as there is nowhere else to put it, when i go to the phone itself and go to the folder there is nothing in there but on my pc when i connect to usb its in the download folder., so I cant install it by going to my phone.
