Quite possibly, yes. If an IVA is right for you, and let's assume it is, the vast majority of IP's would work on a basis of "make no payments to creditors, and use the time in sorting things out to get straight, don't make payments to us either" that allows you some much needed breathing space.

Ask yourself why anyone would ask for a payment in advance of a solution that cannot be guaranteed?

IVA's are fabulous, in the right circumstances, but most IP's will be happy to get to successful creditors meeting before they ask for payment.
  • If you are not happy with them at this stage imagine what they will be like over the 5year period when you have questions or need any help or advice?

Speak to 2 or 3 companies until you find one that you are happy with
  • Hi freedebtnewbie

This forum has helped me a lot in the last few years and is an invaluable source of information for me.

I was in the same position 2 years ago when i was dealing with a IVA company who i wasnt sure about they way they dealt with my file was terrible so i did some research and found a company who was much better and i was 100% happy with and i decided to proceed with them

Do your reserach and read some reviews on IPS

I went with Melanie Giles you will find reviews about her and others on the internet it is just a case of finding an IP and company that is right for you

Let us know how you get on
  • I had spoken to a few, one was really pushy and wanted us to pay 350 per month which I knew we couldnt uphold. This company seemed really good, I have spoken to someone else today from another firm and he reckons he could sort acreditors meeting within 5 days....
I am soo confused I dont know where to turn.

I am planning on calling to creditors on monday to see if they have heard from tudor ten if not Im going to change, can tudor charge me for their time still?
  • 5 days???? The creditors must have 16 days notice of a creditors meeting so this doesnt sound right to me.

Have this company written a draft IVA proposal for you? this is the first step before they can call a creditors meeting

They may say they want recompensing for time spent on your case if you go elsewhere, but by the sounds of it that doesn't sound a lot. If you have not yet had a proposal then I would think you have no need to worry about being charged for work that hasn't been done.

Find an IP you ARE happy with, 5 years is a long time to stay wed to someone you're not that keen on in the first place.

Sounds a lot like my first marriage when I put it like that.....
