I'm in agreement with pot'o'gold here. Theres very little in this life thats free. If they were free people on here would be raving about them like they do CCCS and Payplan. Have you spoken to CAB they may be able to help you out.

Yeah, I'll have to be strong and resist the sales techniques. CAB are great but because they're understaffed and manned by volunteers they tend to take forever, bless them.

Why not post a statement of affairs on here (see southernscousers thread called First Time Posters on the front page of debt free wannabee) and see if anyone here can help you out. I've been on here since the beginning of January and thought that I'd cut everything down to the bare minimum but getting advice on here this week I've cut another £50 off my monthly DD's. Give it a go, you've got nothing to lose.

    OK

So we bit the bullet and had 2 counselors from Stop The Worry come round the other day to explain the difference between IVA and bankruptcy and explain some of the legal gubbins involved. Of course they did get around to offering us their service but to be fair there was no hard sale, they just explained what they do (a bankruptcy support service), the process involved and even explained how we could do it ourselves then left.

So what's the service and what do they charge? They say they will fill in and submit all the forms, guide us through the court appearance and telephone interview, deal with our IVA company during the bankruptcy and stay with us in case we need to make adjustments until the day we leave our bankruptcy. All this for £2000 for a joint application (plus the £485 each for the application) so It'll cost us about £3000 altogether but we're thinking can we handle the hassle of doing this on our own, esp dealing with our creditors...... again!

What do you guys think? is it easier to do it independently or is it quite a hassle:confused:

    Thanks

  • £3k!   Even before I read that, I was wary of the company. The website is under construction - a company that can't get a website up & running yet wants to handle your financial affairs doesn't ring bells of welcome to me. Plus you don't know what experience these counsellors have - for all you know, they could have picked up their knowledge reading forums like this one or other sites where people are trained properly! Reading of the £3k tells me you should steer well clear. I'm not saying they're fraudsters or just jumping on the debt bandwagon, but there's nothing they can offer you that the Consumer Credit Counselling Service or Payplan can't offer you for free. Yes, it's a bit involved to sort out, but you can do it, especially with help from these free organisations & from people here. You can certainly do the bankruptcy part without STW & the extra £2k they want. After all, if you had that much money to spare, you'd be putting it towards your debts & the issue of the £100pm increase in payments wouldn't have arisen. :)

I would let the FSA know about this company. they sound utterly shonky.

If you are unable to pay your creditros through IVA at the mo, then hells bells where are you going to find 3 grand from?

the amount of companies making money out of those among us in debt is makig me more and more angry as days progress.

MAKE A STAND PEOPLE! SAY BIG FAT NO to fee making companies making our debt situations WORSE by lining thier own sodding pockets
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • They don't appear to be on the FSA register. They're also not registered with Companies House. I would expect them to be with one or the other. Don't give them a penny!

They're not on the FSA register as authorised to provide financial services. They're also not registered with Companies House. Don't give them a penny!

They are offering installments. Stop paying IVA and pay them with that money until £2k (their fee) is paid.

I've found their flyer with their Comp no and Consumer Credit License No so I'll do a bit of digging.

As for Payplan and CCCS I've emailed them but they said they doubt they could do anything for us as we already had a contract with DFD.

AAAAAAAAH, I'm so stressed!!! So how easy is it to go through Bankruptcy independently and has anyone out there done it after signing an IVA contract?

  • Care to post their details here? I wouldn't mind doing a bit of digging too. :)
