help - afro hair advice needed - yorkshire!

Hi I am posting in desperation!
I have just lost my hairdresser- she is emigrating. I have afro hair so finding a nice friendly experience afro hairdresser is hard but in Yorkshire it's nearly impossible
My old hairdresser cost me £40 every 7 weeks for a relaxer
I went into leeds (margo fuller) and i am looking at £65 - £80 for a relax, plus they won't do that without a treatment 10 days before:eek:
I tried to justify spending that much, and failed so its either
1) buy the chemicals and do it myself
2) find a cheaper afro hairdresser in the leeds/ bradford area
Has anyone got any ideas- i'm too scared to do it myself so i'll have to find another hairdresser..
finding a afro hairdresser is so hard so any tips would be really handy

i find having afro hair done is a night mare, i resort to relaxing it myself rather than pay the £40-50 to have it done, and then go every couple of moths to the hairdresser for a trip/style and treatment and blow. I live in Manchester so there are lots of Afro hair dressers to choose from, try asking around, there has to be some somewhere.
It really is easy to do yourself, just make sure there are no distractions around you when you do it.0 -
Try Huddersfield. They have loads of afro carabian (sp!) hairdressers.0

I second Huddersfield. There are loads. Its really not difficult to do yourself though and a relaxer kit is always less than £5There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0

Hi ya all im a black female from brum if i were you save your money and buy a relaxer kit, i refuse to spend silly amounts on relaxing hair before i cut my hair it was quite long and i used to spend between £70 and £100 on a relaxer, treatment and cut, If u didnt know you can buy dark & lovely kits online from boots, not forgetting you boots points
this is probably the cheapest way otherwise you may have to make long journeys which will be adding to the cost. PM me if u want tips on relaxing successfully.

Hi All, I have always had my hair relaxed by my sis - and had no problems! The only time i had a problem, was when i went to a hairdresser -what a complete waste of money. I avoid "dark and lovely": my own personal preferance - but like nexxus and organic root stimulator. I'm originally from Manchester (where I could find loads of shops to buy stuff), but now live in scouseland (stuff is very hard to find). If this is also your problem try: https://www.pakcosmetics.com - which has a wide range of hairstuff and makeup.0

Hi, there is definitely an Afro-Carribean Hairdressers in Bradford. It's called Rite-Fade and I am now going to describe where it is, albeit very badly.
If you walk to the top of Darley Street and turn left, it is on your left hand side on the corner of that street and the street that leads down the the Kirkgate Shopping Centre. I don't know the name of teh street (sorry). There is a little taxi rank there and a number (4?) of phone boxes. It's kind of diagonally opposite Jack Fulton's, across John Street, directly opposite where Errick's Electrical used to be. It's between the big Oxfam shop and Wilkinson.
See, I told you I was bad at this.
Sadly, I know nothing of how good the place is; I'm not afro-carribean, but I know it's there. Additionally, I don't know if there are any other places in Bradford of a similar ilk.
(I think the street name may be Rawson Place. I'm not sure though. But wander round that area and you will find it)#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

thanks everybody for your replies, i do know of quite a few hairdressers in the area, my main problem is that the service is usually bad - i've had some bad experiences!
Anyway I decided to ask a girl friend and relaxed at home, i used the organic root stimulator it was dead easy my hairdressing costs used to be £40 per 2 months, now its £4! (plus a small present for my friend)Had a thrifty wedding 17-06-10
