Quick question on Jobseeker allowance

I’m a job seeker, I want to do an Open University degree, as you know, you can’t study more than 16 hours p/w. To do the degree in 3 years they (open uni) recommend I put 32 hours of my own time pw into it which I can do in evenings (I volunteer full time).

I know Student Loans Company works with HMRC, if I didn’t declare I was studying in my own time, would the Jobcentre be able to find out?

  • There's 168 hours in a week, so I think that as long as you are still genuinely looking for work they won't much care. After all, you're allowed to do what you want in your free time.
"Most of the people ... were unhappy... Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams
