Nationwide Credit Card - Close and Re-apply

Does anyone know how long I should wait after closing a Nationwide credit card before applying for another one? I'm only interested in 0% balance transfer rates and I applied after waiting only 8 months and they sent me a letter saying I couldn't have 2 accounts open side by side. This isn't true because I have a letter from them in Feb confirming my account is closed and it is showing as settled in Feb on my credit report. I wonder whether this is some sort of automated response based on the settled account being closed too recently.

I also noticed on the close letter that I received in Feb it says "if you wish to re-apply for a Nationwide credit card at any time in the future you are welcome to do so but future accounts will only be offered at the ongoing interest rate and will not be subject to any low introductory rate that may be available at the time." This paragraph suggests that I can never use them again for the rest of my life for 0% balance transfers, which is odd particularly as they offered me no new BT deals at all when I closed my account.

I tried to call them re. the letter but I need to call back tomorrow.

12 months is the norm for Nationwide.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Thanks. I thought it had been 12 months already - mistake on my part. Do you think that part about never being able to get an intro low rate again is BS?

Interesting. Just called Nationwide and queried the rejection letter and they confirmed that the old account was closed in Feb and have now accepted the application and are sending out a new credit agreement.

So it would seem 8 months (probably 6) after closing is enough and the concern over not getting a new-customer-only 0% 20 month balance transfer was misplaced. Good news for 0% BT rate surfers!
