House insurance - near water

House insurance is nearly up for renewal. The question always comes up, "are you within 1 mile to water" (can't remember exact distance, think it's a mile). Anyway, there is a pond near to my house. It is approximately a mile, but would say just under. I have mentioned this to the insurance company, but does anyone know how this should be exactly measured? As the crow flies ? I am concerned about the insurance being valid. The insurance company doesn't give me an exact clarification on this so I wonder if another company would...
Thanks

Probably as the crow flies.
Here is a definition from one compare site:-
Within 400m (1/4 mile) of water
If your property is located within 400m (1/4 mile) of a river, stream, brook, lake, watercourse or sea then please select "yes"0 -
Got to love pointless questions like this.
We are within 1/4 mile of a river. But about 100 feet higher. So the odds of it flooding us is so remote. But yet the ins co's don't take this in their caculations......
If it was lapping our doors it would also have flooded half the dales....Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
