When I started MS I used mysupermarket to do a fairly standard monthly shopping list for us for all our basics. I found that asda and tesco were pretty much evens in terms of cost, tho we're veggie so perhaps meat would make a difference. Sainsbury's is on average about £6-8 more expensive than either of these. I knew Tesco delivery service is very good in our area since I'd used it before so I went with it. It does force you to sit down and think about what exactly you want to buy and you can change it right up to the day of the delivery so you can think about stuff and either add or remove from your basket. Tesco doesn't fob you off with substandard fruit and veg cos you're a delivery customer, sell by dates etc are always fine too. And I do often use vouchers from the board to cut costs or get extra points etc.

The other advantage especially for someone like me getting used to MS ways is that you can take as much time as you want to compare prices. In supermarkets it can be harder to do this, especially if you are there at busy times or with other people. You can also nip over and check here, eg the thread about value things people have liked, just to see if soemthing is worth trying.

All in all I'd really recommend online shopping, at least till your MS ways are established.

BTW we don't have waitrose here but I know from mysupermarket that it probably costs about a third more again than Tesco so I'd say def avoid!

Asda is appalling I have used them 3 times and 3 times they have messed things up. They have done things like not deliver to my door and asked me go and pick up the shopping from downstairs (I live in a tower block), deliver food that is going out of date the next day, deliver wrong items, mix substitutes in with shopping so you not sure what they are until you check the whole thing as the descriptions on the delivery note are basic, deliver terrible substitutes such as womens deodorant when mens was ordered. Their customer service is a joke. The call centre is in south Africa so they staff have no clue about what you are talking about so just offer a refund. The store has a manager that deals with the home delivery but on the whole Asda are not interested in service and are arrogant that they are right so just refund you to fob you off.

Should have added on the few occasions Tesco have got something wrong I've phoned the (always nice) lady at the call centre - they always seem to have chirpy scottish accents - and they have immediately recredited the cost to my account. I'm not exactly a tesco fan ethically but can't fault their service. It's much better than instore :)
