IDK what the hell to wear/buy to wear. I have 1 suit, 2 shirts so far.
IDK if suits are going to be necessary everyday, or not. What do you think? I was going to wear black trousers, nice blouse and black blazer, but thinking on my first day just wear my 1 suit *which I also wore to interview*
Thoughts?

When you went for the interview, was it actually at the place you will be working?IDK what the hell to wear/buy to wear. I have 1 suit, 2 shirts so far.

If so, what were those who worked their wearing. Use that as a reference.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Are you customer facing? What is the company like?
I would just wear one of the smart tops and black trousers. You don't want to go overkill.0 -
I didn't see any women, only men, in black trousers and shirts, that's why it's so difficult

I think I will be seeing customers yes

A colleague of mine used to have a few jackets (tailored, like suit jackets) in diff colours/checks/fabrics/lighter weight for summer etc and just a few skirts and tops in neutral - navy, black, lighter for summer etc. Made it easy to mix n match and look like she had loads of suits. Jackets on their own are usually cheaper than a suit.
I used to wear a smart skirt or trousers and blouse but on days when I had customer meetings I'd wear one of my 2 suits !
Don't go over the top to start with - one suit, black trousers and some nice tops will see you through the first week until you have a better idea of what's "suitable".
Mainly men in the office but are there any female secretaries or HR staff you could call before you start to get an idea of the dress code ?
Congrats on getting the job, hope it goes well.0 -
Oh the classic dilemma of the women's working wardrobe!
Keep your own style, but think about what other women have been wearing throughout your working life. Like others have said, you can guage this workplace better when you do your first week.
I know client facing secretaries who dress like crap in black trousers with a mix and match of scruffy tops, cardigans and jumpers and the occasional badly fitting shirt.
Simply putting a suit jacket over the top of those scruffy tops would have made it look very smart and ten times better!
Personally I'm a fan of the adrogynous look and would love to rock up dressed like a bloke (in shirt and tie) for work every day, but somehow that isn't quite accepted in society yet and hasn't taken off in this country!
I used to work as a crappy office temp as well as call centres and I turned up in a suit jacket every day. Seemed to make a good impression and I hoped people would treat me with a bit more respect too.
Good luck in the new job OP!0 -
This is what I've got so far for day 1, what do you think??
This jacket
and
with black trousers and black pumps, acceptable? I want to buy a camel/mink jacket too, I love Zara clothes haha0 -
Love that top, I think that outfit will be fine."It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." :T0

I would wear a suit for the first week until you guage the office, then dress down if needed.
Two things: You can never remake a first impression and better to be too smart, than scruffy or that bit too casual."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -

I once went to an interview in full suit, shirt, tie, polished shoes...
The three men interviewing me were in shorts and flipflops - was a very uncomfortable interview!
With that in mind I've since usually just worn a shirt and smartish jumper for the sake of feeling comfortable, so although what you're thinking looks fine, make sure your comfy!0 -
The interviewers can where what they want. You are the interviewee and this is the time they will be assessing how you are on your best behaviour before you get in and it will be a hassle to get rid of you.I once went to an interview in full suit, shirt, tie, polished shoes...

If you came in in a jumper, you would have to be stupendous to overcome that."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0
