Nationwide - First Payment

Hello,

I think I am being a bit thick here but I dont understand.

Right my statement payment due date for my credit card is 19/10/12 and the balance was £38 I paid it all on 2/10/12 and it says 'payment received thank you'

I used the card again to pay for some cinema tickets yesterday and there is now a balance of £46 (several of us went!) but the way it looks online is that they now also want me to pay this £46 by the 19/10/12 is this correct or will that go on my next statement and I dont need to worry?

The website is a bit crap to be honest, if I have paid why is it still telling me payment is due by 19/10 - I am not used to Nationwide's website yet.

The cinema tickets are next months statement.

If the minimum payment/full balance was £38 then your fine. What date was your statement generated?
  • You've nothing to worry about if you paid the full balance of the statement on 2nd October. I imagine the payment due date will be updated when they prepare your next statement.

you only need to pay the amount on the statement you received.
any later spending will be shown on your next statement

Thanks everyone - the website is just a tad misleading for me and I thought first payment I didn't want to stuff that up :)

Last time I had a credit card the internet wasn't around!!!
  • So the £46.00 will be showing on the statement dated 24/10/12 and that payment will be due on 19/11/12

The web page that you are looking at shows current transactions, generally the ones processed since your last statement was issued. When the statement date is reached all transactions are moved from the current page and can only be seen by looking at the historical data. Anything that you see on the current page will not have to be paid for until the payment date after the one showing at the top of the screen. It may be a bit confusing at first but once you get used to it you'll find it quite logical.

I was looking at it like once I had paid and it was registered that I had paid, it would stop telling me that my payment was still due on or before 19/10/12.

But that makes sense, thanks again for everybody's help.

Yes, it is all a bit confusing, isn't it. But what you have been told here is completely correct.

I've just logged in to Barclaycard to see how they deal with it to give you an example of how much clearer Nationwide could have made it. I made less sense of what I saw once logged on that I did of what you described you saw on yours!

But just to reiterate - as long as you pay the full balance detailed on the statement by the date detailed on the statement then you will be fine.

Many people find it best to set up a direct debit with the card company to pay the balance in full each month. That means they will sort out how much and when to take the payment.

    Hello,
sorry for hijacking the thread, I've got a question.

My statement was generated on 25th, and DD is on 12th following month. I have low credit limit - £250, and I have run out of it. I don't want to get charged for going over the limit, I don't want to pay the balance by faster payments.
Is there any chance the DD date can be moved within approx 5 days from statement?
    thanks for advice.
