Electricity debt, moving home.

Hi

I have a fairly sizable debt with my electricity which I pay off every 2 weeks with my usage,

I am moving back into my parents house so will not have anywhere to 'transfer' my bill to.

Can I have any advice on how I can arrange to pay off the debt separately and how to end my account seeing I have a debt?

I am on benefits so i cannot afford to pay much a week off the debt.

The supplier will seek to collect the entire debt once you close the account at your current address, for obvious reasons.

You just close your account down to a closing reading you give and supply a forwarding address.

Then agree a payment plan. It just transfers from a live to closed debt.

Be wary that they may be more open to a quicker referral to a DCA on defaults.

Out of interest how much is the debt and how much are you paying off ever 2 weeks and how much for ongoing consumption?

When you move home your supplier may assume you are better off because you no longer have to pay for ongoing consumption and want you to pay it off quicker. As others have said, once they dont supply you one missed payment and they could well had it over to a DCA.

I suggest that you look to sign up for Fuel Direct (a deduction from your benefits paid direct to the supplier & a set amount of £3.55 per week plus ongoing consumption normally).

Unless the supplier has been taking more than that for debt previously they will be no worse off so should have no issue with it (doesn't really matter if they do once you're signed up) ;)

I presume that you are not moving back in with your parents because you've suddenly become wealthy so this will prevent them from attempting to hassle you for more than you can afford

Good luck in getting back on your feet soon

This does not apply as they will no longer have a supplier.
