RE: Signing Off JSA

OK, I begin my new job on the 12th, and want to sign off JSA.
This isn't a problem, I can call the number next week, and declare my intention to sign off. However, my first day of work actually falls on my next sign in date, so I'm worried if I don't attend my sign on then I won't get the benefit to which I'm legally entitled.
Can I call the Job Centre in advance of my start date and expect that I will receive any outstanding benefit owed to me on the relevant payment date? I'm worried now that, because it happened to a friend of mine, I'll sign off JSA but then still get a letter telling me my payment is being withheld due to me not attending my sign on meeting.
Any advice?

You just need to sign off the day before you start work and will then get JSA until that day.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
