What type of paints do I need? 2 different projects

Project 1: I want to paint my son's cotbed which is a varnished (orangey) pine. It is very smooth to the touch. I want to paint it a matt pale blue. What kind of paint would I need for this project?
Project 2: I have a wooden kitchen table which opens up for more seating. However the underneath (which becomes the top when opened up) is completely unvarnished/unsealed wood. The top is much darker wood and looks like it has been varnished/sealed. I need to make sure the underneath is not only varnished but the surface is sturdy enough to withstand being used every day.

A good quality gloss paint ...
sand well first, tack-rag, then undercoat and then top coat ...
you may need more than one coat to cover the colour of the pine .
For the table a good quality polyurethane varnish, check the colour before you apply, again you may need more than one coat.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z # 40 spanner supervisor.No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.Only after the last tree has been cut down.
