How long to give seller to respond?

I bought my OH a book from eBay that was described as being In Very Good Condition. On receiving the book we realised that half the pages were missing  and what was left couldn't be described as VGC (I bear in mind it is 30yrs old)

I have emailed the seller to raise my concerns, but how long should I wait before escalating?

I am not sure how to proceed really - the book was 99p, postage £1.95 (though £1.40 to send). I am kind of thinking even if I was to send it back, by the time I have sent it tracked I will be so significantly out of pocket that it almost doesn't seem worth it

It's amazing what some sellers try to do - his feedback was reasonably ok, nothing that raised alarm bells anyway

Thanks

How long ago did you email the seller? I would wait 24 hours in fairness.

If you open a SNAD you will have to send it back at your own expense.

For the money involved if I was the seller I would just refund & be done with it.

I would probably wait 24 hours as well. If they don't agree to refund immediately, I probably wouldn't bother opening a case/sending it back as the cost to return wouldn't be worth it, so just leave appropriate feedback with low stars for description and communication.
  • I would send a second email chasing a response just in case they missed the first one. Not really worth opening a case but just leave feedback re lack of communication etc

i have bought over 300 books over the last 4 years on ebay and out of those books about 10 were not as described. each time i emailed the seller and they refunded and never asked for the book back....the books never cost too much. Usually 99p - 2.50. So hopefully your seller should refund too and tell you to keep or bin the book.

if you open a case then you will need to send it back tracked which will cost you more than you paid. so wait for seller to respond. if they are not helpful then i would leave negative and mention pages were missing. this won't be good for the seller.

Give the seller a couple od=f days then try emailing again saying you are really unhappy with lack of response

Thanks all - it hasn't quite been the 24hrs yet. I think sending a 2nd email if no response is the way forwards and then go from there - I really don't want to be sending it back for the amount of money involved.

I will have to think carefully about the 2nd email I don't want to say anything that may be misconstruded as feedback extortion
