Travelodge Small Claims Court

Hi all, I stayed at a travelodge hotel last month and experienced an unbelievably bad stay. This included an overwhelming smell of smoke (im athsmatic) a large wet stain on the sofa, a bathroom so rusty my hands were orange after using the tap... the list goes on but im sure you've all heard it before. (I had arrived late after an extremely long day and had to leave at 4am the next morning so I didnt complain there and then - in retrospect I should have perhaps to avoid this situation of being ignored.)
I followed the correct procedures and complained online..then again..then a letter to head office with photos..then a formal letter to head office sent recorded mail. BUT absolutely nothing.
I now fully intend to go to small claims court, but wondered if anybody had any experience doing something similar?

You didn't give them a chance to put things right, the first thing you should have done. Because of this your claim will fail, if they decide to defend it.0

Give them a chance to reply, it was only last month.
You should have complained at the time, the minute you walked into the room and smelled the smoke, anyone who smoke affects would have at least asked at the time for a different room but you choose to sleeep in it anyway:eek:
You accepted the situation.
Apart from a refund from TL, thats lall you can (half) expect but it would be a good will gesture.
How much are we talking about here.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Only the £52 room cost, but it's also about the principle of the thing too. A large company like this shouldnt feel they can completely ignore complaints from customers. Even a response saying 'we've received your complaint and will be looking in to it' would be something. I bet this happens a lot and people just drop the complaint after being told 'you'll lose'. Perhaps I will but I'd rather lose trying than just accept this.
I know I should have complained but it wasnt that straight forward. I'd landed from a long distance flight for work, was jet lagged beyond belief and had been up for over 23 hours. Added to that I had to be away in the very early hours and at the time just crashed out. Live and learn though I guess.
thanks guys0 -
What email address did you use.
I had one occasion to complain and they replied within a couple of days with 'sorry'
Not good enough say I, I expect at least another nights stay. Free.
I got it too, in a much nicer Travelodge.
Never use them now, my problems were even worse than yours lol.
Premier Inn every time for me now.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

My recent stay in a Travelodge York Central will certainly be my last! The room was well below standards of cleanliness, the bed wasn't clean and the room was invaded twice during the evening by strangers. I have complained in person, email and also letter, end result, Travelodge are not interested, my concerns will be passed on and no refunds will be given. They didn't give me any opportunities to restore any faith. Complete waste of £115 for not even a 1 star hotel. Save your money and AVOID TRAVELODGE!0
