Washing Machine Help Beko WMA520W AA Class

I am assuming all washing machine motors are pretty much the same so I was hoping somebody could advise me.
My washing machine tries to spin but cuts out after a second or two. It is not the control board as the motor does try to turn but gives up after an initial burst of energy.
I have taken the motor off and tested the 8 pin connector with a mulitmeter and got the following results.
I assume pins 1, 2 & 3 are the motor. There is continuity across all three terminals.
Pins 4 and 5 are brushes. Full continuity except when I spin the motor from stationary I get a split second of discontinuity spinning one way but not the other.
Pins 6 and 7 are taco coil no continuity except when I spin the motor from stationary I get a split second of continuity spinning one way but not the other.
Pin 8 is earth and none of the terminals show continuity with it. All parts of the motor casing show continuity with it.
I cannot see any damage to the taco coil but there is what seems to be a magnet or carbon bush around the end of the armature that is broken. This piece is definitely supposed to be moulded/shaped around the end of the armature and sits tightly inside the taco coil.
What do you think? I think that because the moulding on the end of the armature is broken and I do not get continuity over the taco coil pins then both the motor and taco coil will need replacing.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Without wishing to offend you, I think your question might be too technical for these forums. That's not to say tech people don't visit here, but perhaps a more dedicated forum for your needs would find your answer quicker than on here.
The UK Whitegoods forums might be a better place to ask your question:- http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/forumsphpbb3/0 -
Whats a taco coil when its at home? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Hi poppellerant Thanks for your response I have posted to 3 other dedicated forums that deal with Appliances. I just thought maybe it was worth a try on here as well... you never know who is on here
you don't ask you don't get!!
Hi penrhyn The way a washing machine detects the speed of the motor is via the tacho coil. The tacho coil is on the outside of the motor attached to the end opposite the drive belt with 2 thin wires running from it. It’s a small coil that surrounds the shaft of the main armature where a small round magnet is attached. As the armature turns the magnet on the end of the shaft turns inside the coil. It’s then easy for the pcb to count each revolution of the small magnet and work out how many revolutions per minute it is turning. Hope this answers your question.

To OP. If you can see the broken bit, then that is the bit that needs to be replaced. Most parts for Beko machines come in modules that you can remove/unscrew and reverse instructions in a relatively easy exercise. Type in the model number on the ransome spares website and have a look on there. I have used them for my old beko WM and My AEG oven element. They even have video demo's for some of the procedures which are generic to all WM's oven etc.
My latest replacement was as I said the heating element for fan oven and I did the whole thing in just over an hour as I had a slightly tricky access problem with the wires behind the back plate, but my OH did the tumble drier when the thermostatic cut out failed 2 years ago. It really was a matter of undoing plates and screws and refitting exactly as old ones and reversing instructions. Cost in total in three times probably less than one call out charge alone!0 -
Thanks confused by the spelling, started thinking about mexican food!!That gum you like is coming back in style.0

We had a very similar problem with out washing machine (an Indesit, not a not a Beko - but many brands use the same motors) - it washed and tumbled ok, but cut out after trying to spin for a few seconds. It was the motor brushes which needed to be replaced. They were not so worn that they couldn't maintain contact with the relatively low speeds required for washing and tumbling, but the high speed spin cycle caused the near worn out brushes to lose contact. About seven quid for a replacement set off eBay, half an hour and skint knuckles to replace (and very dirty hands from the shed worn carbon around the motor). There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
