Warning - renewal insurance

This morning my husband received a letter which read more or less as follows.

'It is now just over a year since you bought this item, and the manufacturer's insurance has now lapsed. You can renew the insurance for £x per month by simply returning this form' blah blah.

The important thing is that he checked the model number shown on the top of the form. Rather than being the model he bought, the model number on the letter was for the most basic model.

A genuine mistake? NO! My husband used to be a domestic appliance engineer, and knows many customers who have been caught by this scam. If you take up the insurance without checking, your appliance is NOT covered - if you try to claim, the company will notify you that you have covered the incorrect specification. The fact that they gave you this specification in the first place is irrelevant! Apparently several insurance companies use this ruse, and customers are regularly caught by it.

So check the model number before taking up one of these insurance offers. Better still, check Martin's current recommendations for cheap insurers and shop around.....;)
