Thank you Soolin you are always so helpful. I might try the American market again.
I have some small jars with lids. Do you think I could sell some London 2012 air? :rotfl:0 -

One tip is that Americans like things with a story- I posted a pointless thread a while ago about a collector on a TV programme called 'Deals from the dark Side'.
So upsell vintage items
that isn't a vintage brass fire toaster- it is 'like something out of a Sherlock Holmes novel'. Tell them what it is- what is exciting about it and they will buy it in droves. Anything really 'British' and old- just remember to remind them exactly how old it is - so something isn't just 'Victorian' it was 'made while the Great Queen Victoria was on the throne'.
Keep it factual but keep reminding them how old things are.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. They are very helpful tips. Thank you so much. I'll have a good look through my cupboards, maybe I have a hidden gem somewhere.
Or perhapsI could put myself up for sale. I'm really British and quite old!0 -
I have not sold to America but have thought of trying to sell items to Americans as I have done some freelance work there. The freelance work is priced by me in US dollars and the client pay in dollars so there is not a problem as far as they are concerned with currency (there is a problem for me but that is another story).
Do Americans see UK listed items on ebay in £'s ? I imagine they do and that might put off most, except the more internationally savy American bidders off. Can you cahnge the currency to US dollars to attract Americans?0 -
Each international Ebay shows the price in their currency, when on the item page you bid in the currency of where it is listed, underneath the bid box it has the current conversion rate.Mistral001 wrote: »

You can list in Ebay.com where your listing would be in dollars and the buyers would be told you were in the UK..0 -
I've never had any problems with American buyers, but never had any pay crazy prices for my stuff either. The only bad foreign buyer I've had was an Italian customer who left me bad feedback because an item took two weeks to arrive, even though I posted it within a day.0

Not much experience with Americans, but had some exotic buyers - Botswana I think was my most far flung sale. Given what I was selling had very definite international interest I'd have been nuts to restrict my auctions to domestic bidders. I certainly had some American friends on the stamp boards and one year sent people postcards from a trip to Eastern Europe, as the countries' stamps were relatively sought after."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I've had a little exchange of emails with an American buyer over the weekend. I am selling something old, properly old and he firstly emailed to ask when this was made- so I gave him a date (over 100 years ago)
He then emailed to say how wildly exciting it was that he could buy somethng that old, and could I tell him if I could ship to the uSA and if so how much- so I sent him back a price.
I then got 'wow, really! that's awesome, I can't believe i can have that so cheap'. He bid, he won and he paid immediately. He looks like a dealer of some sort from his extremely good feedback and I'm glad I've made someone's day!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
