Dear all,
Which of the free apps do you find most useful? I use GPS without sound because I don't know how to get it. Does one need to open an account to get the free apps?
I am just looking for helpful things to do with my android (ICS).
Comments most appreciated.

I don't really use that many apps other than the main ones, facebook, Twitter etc. You get apps from the play store, there will be a shortcut in your menu. All you need is a google account (such as gmail)0 -
WhatsApp is good for sending photos and messages using your phones internet rather than MMS or text.
Viber does free calls, as well as photos and messages through your internet, the smileys aren't as good as WhatsApp though
Words With Friends is a popular scrabble game. You can play random people, or people you know.
Draw Something is 'the addictive social drawing game'
Flashlight turns your phone into a torch.
I think it prompts you to open a googlemail account when you try to download them.
I suppose how 'useful' they are'll depend on what you want to use the phone for

Many thanks for the help, i am also stuck on how to input ( under scroll), like the Yahoo id, using the android, there does not seem to be any such thing.
Are there any apps related to book reading etc; Eyes get tired soon.
thanks again,

There is a kindle app, but if your eyes get tired then you won't want to read much on a backlight LCD in a dark room.0 -
I meant a Voice reading it and me just listening to the voice.

Not altogether sure what you mean for the yahoo id bit tbh, I don't use it. And as for books, if you google 'free android apps for reading books' it throws up a load of options, I can't recommend any as I don't use it for that... I think my screen'd be too small for me to be read books on

Cool Reader will read books aloud. Its pretty good.
I also use AVG antivirus, Colornote for making lists and jotting down quick notes, Winamp for playing music files, Timeriffic for putting my phone to sleep each night and waking it up in the morning!
I use the replacement keyboard input app called TouchPal, which is excellent, Poynt for finding restaurants close to wherever I am and it also shows cinemas and links to film reviews.
Of course if you want some entertainment, try Angry Birds.
Hope thats enough to get you going.0 -

You can download podcasts like The Moth (true short stories told without notes (It's better than it sounds!) and Selected Shorts (longer new/old tales read by actors).
The stories are usually riveting.:D
You have to speed through the credits though, as they sometimes seem lengthy.:(There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
My favourite app is MightyText. It lets you type SMS messages from your computer and send them via your mobile. And incoming messages flash up on your monitor too.0
