Need urgent rabbit advice please

One of our rabbits is a mini lop.

Today his left eye has closed up, and having just checked him, he now has a runny nose.

Is there anything we can do, or do we just need to get him in the vets A.S.A.P. in the morning?

Has he been vaccinated for myxamatosis? Swollen eyes and runny nose is a symptom and swift treatment can help a rabbit recover, but an unvaccinated rabbit is sadly much less likely to have a good prognosis than a vaccinated one (the latter often don't get full-blown myxi). Any previous vaccinations may give some immunity even if out of date. I don't have enough experience to know whether 12 hours or so would make a difference but if I suspected myxi I would be at the vet sooner rather than later.

Alternatively, has he had any problems eating lately? Overgrown tooth roots can cause eye and nose issues too but you would expect a decreased appetite from the pain or perhaps other dental issues. One potential risk from dental issues is that the rabbit stops eating - rabbits need to continuously graze to keep their digestive system going or they can be prone to something call GI stasis - the bunny version of a horse suffering colic. If he's stopped eating, he may well need treatment tonight to get his gut going again, and to be syringe-fed a recovery food if he won't eat of his own accord.

I would be calling your emergency vet NOW. If you phone your vet the emergency number should be on their voicemail.
