Money conscious or spender? Which one are you?

  • OH is the saver. He's never had a cc or loan. All his life he's paid everything cash (although got his mortgage now which is the exception)

I used to be the spender :o
When I think back to the brand spanking car on HP, store cards, credit cards, loans and overdrafts, I just go :eek: I have NOTHING to show for it now. Nothing! Every so often OH asks me where my money went, why the debt, etc, and I really have NO idea! :(

I do know my first mistake was buying a brand new car. My second mistake was writing it off after less than 2 months (darn black ice!!!! :p)

Thankfully I'm now out of debt and starting to save (see my sig! ;)), but to think on how much I could've had by now if I'd had my head screwed on 10 years ago...!

No point thinking like that though. The important thing is: I'm on my way up :D

saver, slowing brow beating DH into the same mindset. He remarked the other day this is the first time he has EVER had savings! They aren't really savings they are advance loan repayments but getting him into the zone is a good feeling.
Also he was amazed we got married without incurring debt ... and been on hols without incurring debt - very novel for him

    More training in progress

  • We were both spenders, cheap army quarters and cheaper bills made us spend more, (£20.00 a week on cut flowers). It eventually caught up with us when we bought our own home and left the army, (had to grow up).

Started paying off a 30K debt, (with help from army pension payout) and got down to about 19K before finding MSE, a few years ago. Realized from then that the debt had to go and we both made a huge effort. DH actually gave me his card, (his one and only) to our joint account and only asks for a few pounds if needed, I am now so tight that I reuse all the tin foil and wrapping paper, several times over, refuse to put the heating on, unless baltic and put the summer duvets up in the loft, (spread out) for extra insulation.:rotfl:

Now we are paying the mortgage off and it's really all down to MSE, otherwise we would still be looking at 19K of debt. So thank you :T:T:T
    Mortgage: Aug 12 £114,984.74 - Jun 14 £94000.00 = Total Payments £20984.74
