Car insurance cancellation - Effective date of commencement

Hello,
I called up to cancel a car insurance renewal from a "well known high street insurance broker" but have forgotten to return the documents as required. The policy can be cancelled with no penalty (they've recently changed the terms and conditions to allow this) if it is done so "BEFORE the date of commencement." This is from their terms of business.
On, my schedule it lists the "effective date of commencement" as 1200 on the 4th October. So i'm hoping that if I take them at 0900 tomorrow this will count, but I anticipate an argument. Somebody on their phone line this evening said it would be ok, but then I was told contradictory information by another person. These were the call centre though and not the branch who deal with it.
Any thoughts? Surely legally i'm fine (if a legal "date" refers to a time as well as a day)

Swintons very possibly would argue with you even if you had brought it in yesterday (there is another thread on here yesterday about the same).
They do often back down but you must check they do what they say they will as again looking on here you will find a fair number of cases of broken promises0 -
Well, it was cancelled with no argument and a friendly service.
I'd read the stories and expected the worst to be honest.
Now insured for £175 less.
Of course, now i'm paranoid that they will suddenly find charges to add to the account. I was told in the office that there would not be any and I would receive a refund, and on the phone. Nothing in writing though. The policy has gone from the online account.0
