Charges for bank statements

Need to see some of my old bank statements and im sure i used to be able to view back further than 12mths online.
Now i'm being asked for £10 a statement, surely thats an unfair charge? Especially as online banks dont have the cost of sending out statements anyway!
I'm in 'negotiations' now about how important they value me as a customer but was wondering if anyone else has had issues or if this has been bought up before as i couldnt see anything on the forums?

Generally, they can charge whatever they like for a service they provide. Most of the other services they provide are free of any charge - including regular monthly statements.urs sinserly,

It depends who you are with, but typically, they'll send out archived statements for free if you have not received them before. Ie, they'll only charge for duplicate statements.0

They've provided you the information. You've not retained it. You agree to the tariff that says they will charge for the service you require.
A customer who doesn't pay the agreed price for a service may be a customer who isn't worth keeping.I'm in 'negotiations' now about how important they value me as a customer0 -
When the bank charges issue was doing the rounds, this was got around by asking for a list of transactions rather than statements (under the Data Protection Act - nominal £10 fee).
Do you actually need the statements or would that be sufficient?

Yup, and bearing in mind that I've had them before and don't know where I've put them, I think paying HSBC a fiver for printing about 100 pages for my accountant isn't too bad a deal.
