Car Insurance Excess

Hi,

I hired a car whilst on holiday from Avis, I only took out the standard CDW insurance which had a 500 Euro excess.

I hit a rock which had fallen into the road, this hit the sump causing loss of oil. I stopped to car almost immediately so to avoid engine damage.

The car was towed and I got a replacement, I was lead to believe I'd only have to pay for the cost of the repair.

I now see that my credit card has been debited by over 400 euros, I've not received a breakdown of the costs. Does this seem excessive? I would have expected a bill for a new sump and oil change to be less? Am I entitled to a breakdown of the charges?

Thanks
Chris
