Ouch, thanks guys for being so harsh. I just wanted some advice on my situation, the personal attacks aren't really necessary! I have never had disciplinary action before and have no idea where I stand.
I am aware my situation is far from ideal and being of 'use' to my employer is an unfair question to ask as you hardly know my full situation. Everyone gets sick, some people more than others. If I had some long standing health issue would you have asked the same question?
As for prioritising my studies? Yes, they are very important to me and I am doing just fine in that area. Work fits in and I get my job done, in addition to taking on tasks delegated to me under 'any other duties'. I have also been left for the past year as a lone worker covering two peoples jobs while my sole colleague is on maternity leave. She is due to leave again in February. Maybe I don't cope as well as I think I have been, but I have managed for 2 years of study and can cope for the next 6 months of my final year. I've done the same - just grin and bear it, and plough through the last 6 months, get the best grades possible and hopefully you can get a different job with a clean slate once you are more qualified.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

Needing time for operations and still have time for university. Sounds like you don't want this job and planning to leave soon as you graduate. That's what most employers would think. If you're able to study then you're able to work. Give up one.
Judgement much? Yes, I have plans to move on from this job when I graduate. But 'able to study and able to work'? What do you think I've been doing? Claiming sick while still going to university? Leap to conclusions all you want, but I'm not like that at all. When I have been sick, I have missed both work and university and then pulled my !!!! into gear to make sure I stay on top.
In regards to my operation, it was during my summer break so I didn't miss uni and I came back to work ASAP post op.
To dizzyrascal: yes, the doc though it was glandular fever first off. It is a fair point that my stress levels are high. Likelihood is that my current lifestyle is the fault for my illness. Time to pop some vitamin C.

I'm worked up over a verbal because I've never had any problems or been disciplined before, I'm concerned with it affected my prospects. Yes, 35 days is a lot but the majority have been with a medical certificate!Saving for my wedding!Waiting for that first win!!!0

Doesn't matter. Was it 35 consecutive days? How many shifts do you do a week? I mean, you have to remember that regardless of WHY you were sick or the fact you had a Dr's note, the company still had to find cover for your shifts and pay you even though you weren't coming into work.0

Yes - No one is exempt - even people with disabilities can be managed out of jobs due to sickness.0 -
S/He said it was tonsillitis? And...yes, the person is a student working part time, so I'm trying to gather how many weeks he was off work, 35 shifts could be 17 weeks if he's just doing 2 days a week. TBH, I'm not that bothered.0

Add to this an average holiday entitlement and bank holidays, and you are looking at being absent for around 14 weeks over the last year.
lets not get carried away here, the facts are the OP was off 35 days not 14 weeks, you can't add in holidays etc just to try and make your point look better, I'm surprised you didn't add up toilet breaks and blowing their nose to try and get it to 15 weeks.0 -
Just worked out it wasn't actually 35 days. I work Mon-Fri and the Bradford system includes weekends. My actual days missed were more like 26 days when you take the weekends and BH out. 22 of those were related to tonsilitis.
But why does it matter now? I'm not going to appeal, the 'punishment' is apt for my employer and I have 6 months till my review. Done and dusted, no further worries.Saving for my wedding!Waiting for that first win!!!0
