Gaming laptops make poor CAD workstations.

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

I use CAD/CAM including Vericut and UGS/NX for programming and bought an I7 8GB ram 3gb graphics etc laptop which handles it all just fine. Then i tried the same on an ancient samsung laptop with celeron 1.86, 2gb ram and onboard graphics and to be honest it also runs the above programs just fine also. I was surprised how well it handled it. With 2GB ram it just means i can't do multiple edits.

This seems to be the one recommended if you want to run things like Autodesk's Inventor - a colleague has one and it seems to work well.

Complex calculations using which software? All machines can do complex calculations, some do them faster than others, an I5 or i7 should suffice, but the gpu may be important.

    Just to add....

The Precision range of Dells is built infinitely better than the consumer grade Inspirons so don't discount it because it is a Dell and you know plenty of people who've had Inspirons which have fallen to bits. You only have to pick one up and compare it to instantly notice the difference.

Also they hold their value well.
