There are crates out there with dividers in them that are designed to be adjustable in size, so you may be able to construct a divider of your own if you did want to make the usable area a bit smaller.
Personally I am of the opinion that you should try not to let a puppy practice peeing indoors at all - so the size of the crate wouldn't be a big issue with me, I would still be offering pee breaks around the clock to encourage it to pee outside, rather than use a small crate to discourage peeing inside. Our pup was taken out on a 2-hour rota evne throughout the night, with two people doing it, it meant we could each get a 4 hour stretch in. It sucks at the time but in reality it's only for a few weeks, and then you can stretch that to 3 hours, then 4, then just offer one break in the middle of the night, before going all night. It really did work, I think she may have only ever had one or two accidents in the house fullstop, and she wasn't even crate-trained, just confined to the kitchen overnight.

Krlyr, I tend to agree about the pup peeing indoors. I am getting over excited I think!

It will be me doing all housetraining weekdays I think, but we'll see, Breeder told me they house train very quickly. I did note that they were all already using the paper, I was only there for an hour and a half or so, but was very impressed. They are really tiny to be getting the idea.

Sorry Zaksmum, it's a promise I made dh.

Well, eBay not yielding any very local crates. What about using my big crate with a bed in the back of it? Might be helpful initially as will be enough room for newspaper at the front, but that might initself make housetraining harder?

You promised him you wouldn't tell anyone what breed of puppy you're getting? Why's that?
