Frustrated new seller on ebay!

I only started selling stuff on ebay 2 or 3 weeks ago and I've already had one idiot messing me around. The auction ended on Thursday and I hadn't heard anything by Monday so I sent a polite message requesting payment within 24 hours. Didn't hear anything back so opened an unpaid item case yesterday. Got this message from him today:

TOLD YOU ALREADY GIVE ME A FEW DAYS IM COMPLETLY BROKE...OK AND DONT INVOLVE E BAY THERE IS NO USE DOING THAT.STE

I'm so annoyed for several reasons!
A) He's lying, as I didn't have any contact from him at all until that message. I wouldn't mind someone taking a week to pay, just as long as I'd had some communication from them beforehand.
B) I've looked at his feedback, and there's 2 other items he won the same day(similar value) that he's since paid for.
C) "Completely broke"- that's very convenient. He can't even be bothered to lie convincingly!
D) He's posting all in capitals and very rude and defensive, because he's clearly in the wrong. If there's been a genuine reason why I couldn't pay for an item quickly(e.g. Paypal problems) I've always been very apologetic.
E) I won't be able to leave him negative feedback.

I did begin typing out a reply to him, but deleted it. I can't even be bothered with this idiot, as I'm sure he'll just reply in an agressive manner, judging by the way he's acted so far.

A couple of questions:

1) Do you think it was unreasonable of me to open an unpaid item case with only 24 hours warning?
2) When I close the case will the "buyer" be able to leave me negative feedback?
Thanks in advance!

I'm fairly new at ebay as well, but as far as i understand it, he couldn't leave negative feedback if the no payment dispute goes in your favour. The danger is if he pays, then he can and I don't think you have much comeback.

To be honest I have become pretty philosophical about the whole situation. I'm certain that i will be conned and that ebay will do naf all to protect me as a seller.

I have 100% positive feedback, have obeyed every rule, posted descriptions that even some of the people buying from me have said are overly harsh when it comes to condition/damaged, and post items promptly. Yet I have recieved a one rating on those daft rating for postage ect. This makes me an average seller apparently.

So even if you do everything well, as a seller you can get bad feedback. For me this isn't a big deal, I'm just selling off some of my old toys/books, but for a person relying on ebay. They can have their business destroyed by a few idiots and there is nothing they can do about it.
  • 1) No not really, eBay send a reminder on day two. Unless you have opted out of this.

    2) No they cant.

Put them on your blocked buyer list. Sounds the kind that will bid/buy more from you just to be a ......

I'd not reply, and if he hasn't paid EXACTLY 4 days after you opened case, close it and he'll get a strike.

If he was broke, he wouldn't bid!

How much was item? If he does pay, be sure to send it tracked!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Thanks for the replies everyone. I assumed that would be the case re feedback, but thought I better check. Have added him to blocked bidder list already!

That's exactly what I'm planning to do pinkshoes! Judging from his behaviour, I'd be very surprised if he did pay.

Item sold for less than £10. He's paid for 3 similar cost items he won on the same day, so he's obviously just being petty and annoyed because I opened a case against him.
  • It your listing says pay within 24 hours and they haven't, then asking for payment now is perfectly reasonable. :)

Bit different if you haven't specified, but even then I would expect buyers to pay within 48 to 72 hours at most.
